Kamala Harris U-turns AGAIN on ban on everyday plastic cutlery

According to her campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris no longer wants a ban on plastic straws.

Axios reports Harris’ latest evolution of her political views, noting that an anonymous campaign aide confirmed she no longer supports the idea.

Harris first advocated for a ban on plastic straws during her failed presidential campaign, during a climate change meeting with CNN in September 2019.

“I think we should do that, yes,” Harris said when asked if she supported the idea.

She laughed and added that it was “difficult” to drink from a paper straw, suggesting that the replacement straw needed to be more innovative.

“We still need to fine-tune this a little bit,” she added.

Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris has withdrawn some of her more left-wing policy proposals

At the time, the Trump campaign explicitly presented Harris’ proposal as the latest left-wing attempt to curtail American freedom. Plastic straws with the Trump logo were sold.

“Making Straws Great Again,” wrote Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager at the time.

“Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable straws today,” Trump’s website read at the time.

Harris’ stance on the plastic straw ban continues to haunt her as she launches her own presidential campaign in 2024.

Fox News hosts recently cited Harris’ stance on straws as an example of her knee-jerk left-wing response to common issues.

“I love my plastic straw, I hate those paper straws,” Fox News host Sean Hannity said recently. Fox News host Steve Doocy also called it a “big liability” for her campaign.

In July, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio criticized Harris’s position at a Trump campaign rally in his state.

“I saw a clip the other day where she wants to ban plastic straws,” he said. “Those paper straws are worthless. We don’t want paper straws in America.”

Harris’ decision to walk back her controversial stance on straws is the latest effort by the campaign to appear more practical on a range of issues she supported when she ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Campaign staff have also walked back Harris’ positions on mandating electric cars, gun buybacks, Medicare-for-all, banning fracking and whether to build a wall on the southern border.

Trump on Thursday criticized Harris’ policy changes, accusing her of copying his campaign.

“We’re going to send her a MAGA hat sometime next week. We’re going to have a special one made,” he said.
