Kamala Harris widens gap with Donald Trump in poll after Democratic Convention
By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter
Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump by five points in a poll after the Democratic National Convention.
And only one in 10 voters say they are undecided or will change their mind before Election Day in November.
The latest poll was conducted among 1,000 likely voters from August 25 to 28, the week after the Democratic National Convention in Chicago resulted in Harris’ nomination for president.
ABC News will host the first Harris-Trump debate on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia. The CNN debate between Trump and Biden earlier this summer is what killed the president’s re-election campaign.
James Carville: Kamala Harris must promise change if she wants to win in November
By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter
Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign manager is now telling Vice President Kamala Harris what she needs to do to win in November. And it’s not by promising another four years of Joe Biden’s administration.
James Carville, who is now an adviser to a Democratic Super PAC and host of Politics War Room, told Harris that her biggest “political advantage” is that the public has already made up its mind about Donald Trump.
Trump’s approval rating has never deviated much from the mid- to low-40s for nearly a decade. Regardless of his divisive policies, Covid, the indictments, who his No. 2 was, or whatever bile he spewed on social media, the jury of public opinion on Donald Trump is out.
He noted that Clinton won in 1992 on a “message of change versus more of the same” and that Barack Obama won in 2008 on “bold hope.”
Even Trump, Carville noted, won in 2016 “on an empty promise to revive a relic of America.”
2024 will be won by who is fresh and who is rotten. It is very simple: The shepherd of tomorrow wins the sheep.
Former disgraced New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will face a firing squad in Congress over his handling of nursing homes during COVID
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will be questioned by Congress over his disastrous handling of nursing homes during the COVID pandemic.
House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) told DailyMail.com:
Andrew Cuomo must find answers to the questions of the 15,000 families who lost loved ones in New York City nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On September 10, Americans will have the chance to hear directly from the former governor about New York’s potentially fatal nursing home policies.
During his closed-door testimony, Mr. Cuomo was shockingly insensitive when asked to explain discrepancies in nursing home deaths, repeatedly dodged responsibility for the nursing home directive, and, most egregiously, showed little remorse for the thousands of lives lost. A true leader admits mistakes and takes responsibility for wrongdoing.
That is not what we saw from Mr. Cuomo during his time as governor, nor during his transcribed interview. We hope that during his public hearing next week, Mr. Cuomo will stop dodging accountability and give honest answers to the American people.
Social media explodes over Kamala Harris’ ‘fake accent’ in speech to teachers union
By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter
Kamala Harris has often been accused of being controversial, but this time it’s about her voice.
Critics allege the vice presidential candidate used a “fake accent” while speaking to a teachers union in Michigan on Monday while campaigning in a swing state.
Accusations abounded on social media that the Democratic presidential candidate changed her voice during her speech praising teachers’ union members at a Detroit high school.
Harris has previously been accused of using a different accent and has faced ridicule, and these allegations are now coming out, just two months before Election Day.
“The new Kamala accent just came out,” one X user wrote in response to a clip of Harris speaking to a teachers union at a Detroit high school on Monday.
Social media users allege in her comments that Harris adopted an urban accent to connect with the working class.
“You may not be a union member, but you might as well thank a union member for the five-day workweek,” Harris said in a tone that was not typical of the one she usually uses in her campaign speeches.
Trump widens lead in betting odds after being in neck-and-neck race with Harris
Donald Trump has built up a lead over Kamala Harris in the betting markets as the vice president continued to gain ground on her Republican rival.
Trump now has a 49.7% chance of winning, with a 0.9 percentage point lead over Harris, according to Real clear pollsthat aggregates a half-dozen betting sources covering the election. It’s Trump’s first lead in the betting odds since Aug. 22 — and comes despite polls largely backing Harris to take the White House.
On August 31, the two were still tied, after Harris had only a 29% chance on July 21, the day Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
Harris later surged to an 8.8 percentage point lead over Trump in the betting average on Aug. 15 before the pair fell back to neck-and-neck. Harris’ last clear lead over Trump came after the Democratic convention in Chicago, when she opened a gap of 2.3 percentage points.
That momentum has since been dashed, as gamblers appear unimpressed by Harris’ performance during her CNN interview last week. Her negative reactions made little impression on her, and she even drew criticism from Democratic voters.
