Vice President Kamala Harris visited North Carolina on Thursday to celebrate the government’s latest spending programs to subsidize green energy projects. “Since I took office, the president and I have made an incredible investment, the largest investment ever to address the climate crisis, about a trillion dollars to a T,” she said with a laugh.

The trip to Charlotte is Harris’ twelfth visit to North Carolina as vice president and fourth trip this year to a key swing state for the 2024 elections. Harris announced the Biden administration’s effort to award $20 billion in grants to subordinated community banks to offer loans for green energy projects.

She spoke about the importance of communities and community leaders, calling it a “special” effort to give money to local communities instead of Washington, DC.

Harris said the money could be used by churches to install solar panels on their roofs to generate clean energy.  “Imagine a house of worship that can now get a no-interest loan so they can install solar panels to generate clean energy through electricity for the entire neighborhood,” she said.
