Doug Emhoff has dismissed the bombshell stories that he punched his ex-girlfriend and had an affair with his first wife as a “distraction” but did not deny them.
DailyMail.com reported in August that second Mr Emhoff had cheated on his first wife Kerstin and got the family’s nanny pregnant.
Earlier this month, stories emerged that Kamala Harris’ husband “beat up” an ex-girlfriend at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and faced accusations that he was a “misogynist” to colleagues at a Los Angeles law firm.
Emhoff was asked by MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough or accusations about his personal life ‘p***ed’ him.
The Morning Joe host did not ask him if DailyMail.com’s reports about his past were true.
Scarborough even reduced them to tabloid stories pushed by Donald Trump and Republican critics.
But Emhoff avoided the opportunity to take them down, brushing them off and insisting he was focused on the campaign.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband sat for an interview with Scarborough, who asked only a general question about the reports, believed to include a DailyMail report this month that quoted sources as saying an ex-girlfriend said he punched her had given while attending the Cannes Film Festival. in 2012.
The host, a former Republican congressman from Florida, asked Emhoff a general inquiry about “tabloid stories about your personal life.”
Second gentleman Doug Emhoff was asked about “tabloid” stories during an interview on MSNBC. He did not deny DailyMail.com’s stories, but instead said he and his vice president wife ‘don’t have time to be lost’
That gave him the opportunity to explore the reporting without going into the details of the accounts. His campaign has denied the bombing allegations, while his statement on the matter remained far from a denial.
“We don’t have time to get lost,” he told Scarborough. ‘We don’t have time to focus on that. It’s all a distraction. It’s meant to throw us off our game.”
“Is it taking you off your game?” Scarborough asked him.
‘No. The only thing we do – the only thing we talk about – is these elections,” Emhoff responded.
“We understand the stakes, we understand the responsibility,” he said, shifting the subject to his wife’s campaign against former President Donald Trump.
“Our country, our future – what kind of future will we have, who would you like to pick as the next three Supreme Court justices? The man who picked the three who overturned Roe v. Wade and wanted to take away more freedom?” he asked.
Another DailyMail.com story earlier this week highlighted complaints about a discrimination case against the LA law firm he headed, including the claim that he hired an “unqualified” part-time model as a legal secretary “because she was young, attractive and was friendly with the powerful men in the office’.
In response to the nanny story, Emhoff acknowledged “difficult times” in his marriage but left out the details. “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of my actions,” he said in a statement. “I took responsibility, and in the years since, we’ve gotten through things as a family and come out stronger on the other side.”
A spokesperson denied the allegations of assault, calling them “false” in a statement to the politics website Semafor.
We don’t have time to concentrate on it. It’s all a distraction. It is designed to take us out of our game,” Emhoff said when asked about the reports
Emhoff was asked ‘how y’all stay centered’ after a series of reports about his past personal life and allegations about his behavior
Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff is accused of violently beating his ex-girlfriend – who DailyMail.com has dubbed “Jane” – because she allegedly flirted with another man during a booze-fueled altercation in 2012. (The couple is obscured along with Jane’s face.)
Interviewer Joe Scarborough asked Emhoff about Donald Trump’s attacks and how he deals with ‘gossip stories about your personal life’
Scarborough got Emhoff talking by pointing out that rival Donald Trump was “spreading it about you and saying those gossipy things about your personal life.” He says it should be the focus, he says it about your wife and makes incredibly crude and lewd suggestions about her past life.”
“I’m just curious, I know I seem like a very zen, thoughtful person, but I think I would look lost, and I’m just wondering, how do you all stay centered, how do you stay centered?” You stay disciplined and don’t really go crazy or back down too much in these things?’
Trump has made a series of public comments about Harris’ past relationship with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.
