Kamala Harris was ‘humiliated’ by Doug Emhoff affair bombshell and hoped to shift spotlight away from scandal with Tim Walz VP announcement

His eyes are set on a move to the White House in January, but for now, potential First Gentleman Doug Emhoff is still in trouble.

On Saturday, DailyMail.com broke the news that Emhoff’s first marriage ended when he got his children’s nanny pregnant.

Now we can reveal that life at Number One Observatory Circle, the official residence of the Vice President, has been chilly to say the least.

“You know what they say: once a cheater, always a cheater,” a senior source noted.

“Of course Kamala is concerned. Not just that he could do it again, but could he have done it before?”

In our exclusive story, we revealed that 59-year-old Emhoff had been having an affair with blonde Najen Naylor, a teacher at his children’s school who also worked as a nanny for then eight-year-old daughter Ella.

The affair cost him his first marriage and in 2008 he and his first wife Kerstin, now CEO of the ‘creative think tank’ Prettybird, divorced.

The news broke shortly after Emhoff’s name — and face — were thrust into the spotlight on Friday, when his wife’s campaign unveiled new coffee mugs featuring an image of a handsome — noticeably younger, thinner, fuller-figured — Second Gentleman for sale at kamalaharris.com.

Within hours, Harris’ campaign was on the defensive when Emhoff admitted to the affair, claiming he had told Kamala years ago and that he had also disclosed the affair to Joe Biden’s camp when it was vetting candidates for the 2020 vice presidential nomination.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of my actions,” Emhoff shyly admitted after an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com.

‘I took responsibility and in the years that followed we processed the situation as a family and emerged stronger.’

But even though Kamala, 59, is said to have been aware of it, it has still left her “nervous and humiliated” just two weeks after it became clear she would be the Democratic nominee for president in 2024, an insider said.

“She wants to focus on improving her image and that’s the last thing she wants to do right now.”

“The Democratic convention is just around the corner and the election is less than three months away, so any distraction is bad news.”

“Frankly, it doesn’t look good, and Harris and her team know it. News of the affair dominated the candidate’s news coverage over the weekend and sent panic through her camp.”

Even a show of support from his first wife didn’t help much.

“Doug and I decided to end our marriage many years ago for various reasons,” said Kerstin, 57.

“He is a wonderful father to our children and continues to be a great friend to me. I am incredibly proud of the warm and supportive blended family that Doug, Kamala and I have built together.”

As admirable as her defense of the father of her two children was, there is no denying that the main reason for that “variety of reasons” was Emhoff’s affair.

Harris tried to put the affair behind her by choosing outsider Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, hoping to shift attention to the Minnesota governor’s rock-solid 30-year marriage.

Naylor, now 47, moved from California to the East Coast shortly after the affair ended.

She now lives in the Hamptons, New York, a millionaire’s paradise.

She did not deny the affair when DailyMail.com contacted her at home.

Her only comment was that she was “a little panicked.”

But a close friend with direct knowledge of the affair and the pregnancy told DailyMail.com that Naylor did not keep the child, while CBS has since reported that the pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

Another friend, Stacey Brooks, who became a mother of twins around the same time as Naylor, also did not deny any of the claims, but said she would not release any further information without Naylor’s permission.

Emhoff and film producer ex-wife Kerstin, 57, ended their 16-year marriage in 2009 when she discovered the affair, the sources said. Their daughter Ella was 10 and son Cole was 15 at the time.

Sources told DailyMail.com that after the affair, Naylor was forced to leave her job at the posh children’s private school The Willows in Culver City, California, where she worked first as a teaching assistant and later as a teacher.

Current tuition for kindergarten through eighth grade ranges from $32,525 to $41,535.

The Emhoffs’ divorce settlement, filed in 2010 in a Los Angeles court, said the couple split the costs of a nanny, a private tutor and private school tuition.

When the couple split in May 2009, daughter Ella, now a model, was in the third grade of primary school.

Emhoff met Harris, then California’s attorney general, three years later in 2013 when he was set up on a blind date by one of her friends. They married the following year.

It is unclear whether he confessed his affair to Harris before his second wife was vetted to become vice president, or whether it only came to light then.

Be that as it may, sources say it couldn’t have surfaced at a bad time, just as Harris has surpassed Donald Trump in several polls and is gearing up for her final push to win over voters in November.
