Kamala Harris finally uploads a policy page to her website 50 days after Biden dropped out of the race: Here’s what it says

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has finally added an “issues” page to her campaign website, 50 days after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and just in time for her pivotal debate with Donald Trump.

The 59-year-old Democratic presidential candidate had unveiled parts of her agenda in a series of policy speeches and campaign announcements, but was criticized for failing to provide a deep platform and giving only one major interview.

The new page, titled “A New Way Forward,” contains four sections: “Build an Opportunistic Economy and Lower Costs for Families,” “Protect Our Fundamental Freedoms,” “Ensure Safety and Fairness for All,” and “Keep America Safe, Secure, and Prosperous.”

Each section contains a series of positions and proposals. The page also highlights how Harris contrasts with Trump, as her campaign tries to tie him to the conservative Project 2025 agenda.

The website does not address some of her past progressive positions, which she has distanced herself from since her failed 2020 presidential campaign.

Kamala Harris campaigns in New Hampshire on September 4. Her website now features an “Issues” page with four sections focused on policy

“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for a new path forward that protects our fundamental freedoms, strengthens our democracy, and ensures that everyone has the opportunity not just to survive, but to thrive,” the website reads.

The vice president is being touted as a former prosecutor and attorney general, using language similar to what Harris said in his campaign.

The section on the economy and lowering costs for families is the longest so far.

The campaign highlights Harris’s upbringing as a single working mother and her “Opportunity Economy,” vowing that as president, Harris will “cut taxes for 100 million working-class and middle-class Americans while lowering the cost of everyday necessities.”

She emphasizes her proposal to expand the child tax credit and pledges not to raise taxes for people making less than $400,000 a year.

It states that she and her running mate Tim Walz “will ensure that the wealthiest Americans and the largest corporations pay their fair share so we can take action to build the middle class while reducing the budget deficit.”

It calls for “rolling back Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, introducing a minimum tax on billionaires, quadrupling the tax on share buybacks, and other reforms to ensure the very rich play by the same rules as the middle class.”

Also announced is her plan to give first-home buyers a $25,000 down payment and expand tax deductions for small businesses.

Many of the proposals outlined were first released in recent weeks in policy speeches in North Carolina and New Hampshire. The page also focuses on efforts to cap drug prices and prescription costs and cancel medical debt.

There is a short section on Social Security and Medicare, which states that they‘strengthen’ both ‘in the long run by making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.’

She also claims that she will work to reduce healthcare costs for the elderly and children.

But there is no detail discussed other than the American rescue plan, where some of those steps have already been implemented.

The website also states that she is committed to tackling the climate crisis and touts the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act during the Biden administration.

It also says that they ‘committed to continuing and expanding the United States’ international climate leadership.’

In the chapter on protecting fundamental freedoms, the campaign emphasizes restoring reproductive freedoms and protecting civil rights, two priorities the vice president worked on during the Biden administration and pursued during the campaign.

Harris frequently criticizes the overturning of Roe v Wade. Her website vows that the vice president will never allow a nationwide abortion ban and will sign legislation restoring Roe’s protections if Congress can pass a bill.

Democratic lawmakers have made several attempts to do this since Roe fell, but have failed because they did not get the necessary votes in Congress.

When it comes to safety and justice, the website cites Harris’ time as California’s district attorney and attorney general, saying she fought to keep communities safe, secure the border and fix the immigration system.

The vice president has been vulnerable to attacks from Republicans on the border, with critics attempting to cast her as the Biden administration’s “border czar.”

Harris has tried to blame Republicans and Trump for blocking a bipartisan border deal.

The website touts Harris’ support for the bipartisan border deal and criticizes Trump, similar to what the vice president has done on the campaign trail. It claims she and Biden took action after the deal fell through, but it doesn’t highlight her work to address the root causes of immigration as vice president.

Harris has vowed to bring back and sign the bipartisan deal as president. Her website also claims the vice president knows the immigration system is “broken” and calls for comprehensive reforms, including security and a “deserved path to citizenship.’

On the opioid crisis, the vice president notes that the bipartisan border deal she wants to pass includes money for detection technology.

On the gun policy front, the website also notes that Harris would ban assault weapons and require universal background checks, among other things.

On foreign policy, the website touts Harris’ work as vice president, which has seen him meet with more than 150 world leaders around the world, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Specific attention is paid to North Korea, Iran, Russia and her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Vice President Harris will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself and will always ensure that Israel has the ability to defend itself,” the website reads.

“She and President Biden are working to end the war in Gaza so that Israel is safe, the hostages are freed, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination. She and President Biden are working day and night to reach a hostage deal and a ceasefire,” it continues.
