The vice president arrived in time to attend President Joe Biden’s speech later in the evening, where he will ceremonially pass the torch to his No. 2.
In her brief speech, the vice president’s voice sometimes sounded hoarse as she fought off a chanting and enthusiastic crowd at the United Center in West Chicago.
“As I look out at everyone tonight, I see the beauty of our great nation,” Harris said. “People from every corner of our country and every walk of life are here — united by our shared vision for the future of our country.”
“And this November, we will come together and declare with one voice that we are one people. We will move forward with optimism, hope and confidence, guided by our love of country, knowing that we have so much more in common than divides us.”
“Let us fight for the ideals we hold dear and let us always remember that when we fight, we win,” she concluded before leaving the stage and taking over the arena.
