Vice President-elect JD Vance has not received an invitation for a formal meeting with his predecessor.
Kamala Harris, in her latest criticism of the new administration, will not give Senator Vance a tour of the Naval Observatory residence, according to a new report from CBS News.
It is tradition for the sitting vice president to invite his replacement for an interview and a tour of their new home.
There was tension at the vice president’s residence after her defeat by Donald Trump in November in a controversial campaign full of personal jokes.
And as Vance prepares to move his family of five to the Naval Observatory in just six days, he still hasn’t received an invitation from Harris.
Additionally, the report notes, the vice president-elect’s wife, Usha Vance, did not raise any questions about childproofing the home.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ latest criticism of the new administration is its failure to carry out a long-held tradition of inviting her successor at Number One Naval Observatory for an interview and tour of the vice president’s residence -president.
JD and Usha Vance have three children under the age of eight, and the new second lady was also rejected by Harris’ team when she reached out about childproofing the Naval Observatory residence.
Employees contacted Harris’ team to request information that could help make the home safe for the Vance children, all three of whom are under the age of eight.
After encountering roadblocks regarding Harris’ staffers’ request, Navy aides overseeing the home communicated with the incoming second family and made arrangements to house the Vance children.
Sources close to Harris suggest the behavior is payback after the current vice president did not receive a rosy welcome when Donald Trump refused to acknowledge his 2020 election loss.
But advisers to former Vice President Mike Pence told CBS that he had extended the traditional invitation to Harris to tour the Naval Observatory.
The Vice President’s residence is located in Northwest Washington, DC, at Number One Observatory Circle, on the grounds of the US Naval Observatory.

This is the first time in decades that the Naval Observatory will house the vice president’s young children.
The family of five prepares to settle in later this month at Number One Observatory Circle of the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
