Kamala Harris advisor shares behind-the-scenes metric showing the $1billion campaign was doomed

A senior adviser to Kamala Harris admitted that internal polling showed Vice President Donald Trump was never ahead in battleground states, and they were running high on Election Day.

David Plouffe said that from the moment Harris entered the race, she started behind Trump and that he was “surprised” to see that public polls showed her in the lead.

“I mean, I think it surprised people because there were public polls in late September, early October that gave us clues that we never saw,” he said.

Plouffe, who advised President Barack Obama’s successful 2008 and 2012 campaigns, spoke about the race on the Pod Save America podcast Tuesday.

Internal analysis, Plouffe said, showed Harris tied with Trump in Wisconsin (47-47) and Trump leading in Pennsylvania (48-47).

“I think we, you know, we were hopeful. “I don’t know how optimistic we were, but we thought, OK, this is connected,” he said.

Plouffe also admitted that what they thought was a great debate performance from Harris ultimately didn’t change the margins as much as they had hoped.

‘I think even after the debate we might have achieved a gain of 0.51. “It wasn’t a race that moved a lot,” he said.

He said the campaign hoped undecided voters would choose Harris and admitted there was less turnout than they expected in some areas.

“You know, you have to be more indecisive than your opponents, and you have to take advantage of the turnout a little bit, which we haven’t been able to do,” he said.

Despite spending more than a billion dollars on the campaign, Plouffe admitted there wasn’t much movement in the race.

Plouffe’s comments sparked a debate over the accuracy of opinion polls.

Pollster Rasmussen Reports trumpeted the news as evidence that its polls were more accurate than others, even though Democratic critics had often dismissed them as too positive for Trump.

“Plouffe said the campaign’s internal polling had NEVER put her FOR TRUMP,” the polling company wrote on X, highlighting the results. “You mean it looked something like this internally: this?”

Plouffe lamented how difficult it was for Democrats to win support from independents in battleground states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, despite running two successful campaigns with Obama in 2008 and 2012.

He defended his decision to have Harris campaign alongside former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, arguing it was essential to win over independents and Republican voters.

Plouffe argued that it was folly for strategists to focus only on pleasing Democratic and left-wing people in the United States.

“The math just doesn’t work,” he said. “Okay?”

Returning from her eight-day vacation in Hawaii, Harris expressed her gratitude to everyone who worked on their campaign, praising their “unprecedented” efforts to raise more than $1.5 billion.

“The outcome of this election is clearly not what we wanted. It’s not what we worked so hard for. But I’m proud of the race we ran, and your role in it was critical. What we did in 107 days was unprecedented,” Harris said in a video.

The video was released on social media by the Democratic National Committee.

“I just have to remind you,” she added. ‘Never let anyone take your power from you. You have the same power as you did before November 5.”
