NRL superstar Kalyn Ponga has been enraged when a junior football fan appears to refuse to accept his helmet after the Knights’ trial loss, despite admitting he is a BIG FAN of the Newcastle playmaker.

  • Andy Condon didn’t want Kalyn Ponga’s helmet
  • Seven-year-old boy turned his back on Knights center

A brash football fan left Kalyn Ponga speechless on Friday night after he refused to accept the NRL superstar’s helmet.

Ponga, 24, crossed paths with seven-year-old Andy Condon full-time following Newcastle’s 36-14 defeat against Parramatta on the New South Wales central coast.

At full time, the Knights center happily passed his head piece, but the youngster from nearby Toukley had none of it.

In awkward scenes at Gosford, the wild youth soccer star put on his mouthguard and walked away.

However, it later emerged that the ‘incident’ was a huge misunderstanding.

Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga thought he was making Andy Condon’s day after handing over his helmet.

Seconds later, the 24-year-old Ponga was left red-faced after the cheeky young man turned and walked away without his helmet.

“I only gave it back to him because I thought he still wanted it, but he didn’t,” Andy told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘I ended up keeping it. I follow Newcastle and Penrith but Kalyn is actually my favorite player.”

It ended a colorful week for Ponga, who this week shocked after finally addressing the toilet cubicle incident more than six months ago in a Newcastle pub with teammate Kurt Mann.

He insisted that on the night in question he was “sick” with food poisoning, and Mann was merely helping him.

On the field, Ponga paired well with recruit Jackson Hastings in patches, but the Eels proved too fancy.

The only sour moment for Brad Arthur’s men was Shaun Lane’s suspected broken jaw.

The backrower lasted just seven minutes before hitting Daniel Saifiti’s shoulder while attempting a tackle.

Parramatta takes on Melbourne in their season debut at CommBank Stadium on March 2.
