Kalvin Phillips’ nightmare start at West Ham continues as he is sent off in defeat by Nottingham Forest… just THREE minutes after his first booking

Kalvin Phillips’ nightmare at West Ham continued at Nottingham Forest after he was sent off.

The Hammers remain without a win this calendar year after a 2-0 defeat at the City Ground on Saturday.

Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring deep in the first half before Callum Hudson-Odoi sealed victory for Forest in stoppage time.

Phillips was forced to forget another night after being sent off in the 71st minute for a second bookable offense following a high challenge on Morgan Gibbs-White.

The midfielder was sent off just three minutes after he was initially booked for pushing Nicolas Dominguez.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean was critical of Phillips, claiming the England international ‘just doesn’t seem interested’.

‘He just got a warning for being involved with Dominguez for no reason. Two minutes he just shot the ball over Gibbs-White and he just caught him on the foot,” Dean said as he continued speaking. Air sports.

‘Stupid second yellow card. He’s just wasting his time playing. He just doesn’t look interested.’

Fans also took to social media to criticize Phillips, with some claiming it is clear why Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was keen to let him go.

West Ham’s poor form continued at the City Ground and they remain winless in 2024

One fan wrote: ‘West Ham’s Kalvin Phillips just proved to everyone why Pep didn’t play him. Complete nonsense, very poor!!!’

Another said: ‘This is the reason Pep Guardiola never took him seriously.’

A third added: ‘Kalvin Phillips was sent off in his second start I believe, what a disaster of a loan.’

Phillip’s latest setback comes after Roy Keane criticized him for his ‘slow’ performance after making a mistake that led to a foul in the defeat to Manchester United earlier this month.

The 28-year-old also inadvertently set Dominic Solanke on edge in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.
