Human remains believed to belong to a camper who disappeared in Kakadu National Park more than a week ago have been found.

Jessica Louise Stephens, 35, last spoke to her family on October 19 before disappearing in the Northern Territory National Park near Nourlangie Rock, where she had gone camping.

Ms. Stephens’ car had been found earlier, along with several personal items.

NT Police confirmed on Saturday that human remains, believed to be those of Ms Stephens, were discovered near Nourlangie Rock about 1pm.

A large-scale search was launched on Tuesday.

In total, 30 rangers, 14 police officers, two helicopters and drones had searched an area of ​​140 square kilometers in the hope of locating Ms Stephens.

Ms Stephens’ mother revealed her daughter had recently been discharged from a mental health unit at Darwin Royal Hospital.

Police are speaking to the camper’s family and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Kakadu is one of Australia’s largest national parks, covering almost 20,000 square kilometers of land.
