The Golden Globe-nominated actor also gave a heartfelt opening monologue, reminiscing about watching SNL as a child with his late mother, then dedicating his time on the show to her: “That’s for you, Mom.”

Speaking of his late mother, who passed away in 2014 due to a battle with cancer, Austin said: “Some of my favorite childhood memories are watching SNL with her.” And we saw him every week.

The Zoey 101 star expressed that when she was younger, she had “crippling shyness,” but when she was with her mom, she would “do anything to make her laugh,” including doing a Gollum impersonation.

Austin walked onto the decorated stage as the audience enthusiastically greeted him with joyful applause at the start of the episode.

He opted for a smart black suit made up of a double-breasted jacket and baggy pants. The star opted not to add a shirt under the jacket for a stylish flare.

And it certainly was a family affair, as not only Kaia and her parents were there to support Austin, but also her older sister, Ashley.
