Kai Havertz has hit back at critics after Arsenal’s signing was criticized online for his performance in an MLS All-Star challenge.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Havertz became the first person in the event’s short history to never score a single point in the cross-and-volley challenge.

As a result of his poor form and Folarin Balogun’s struggle, Arsenal lost in the event and Havertz received a number of complaints from fans.

However, it was the former Chelsea striker who had the last laugh after scoring in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over the MLS All-Stars later that day.

The German fired the ball home from close range before taking to social media to fire back at critics of his All-Star challenge.

Take to TwitterHavertz wrote bluntly, “Hav that” with a “bullseye” and “gaping” emoji accompanying a photo of him scoring in the game.

Havertz then followed up that Tweet with another message that read, “But in all seriousness.. Really nice feeling to get my first @arsenal goal! Thanks to the fans for the great support this week!’

Not only was it Havertz’s first goal in an Arsenal kit – on his debut, no less – but it was also the Gunners’ fifth goal in an MLS All-Star Team defeat.

Prior to Havertz’s try, Arsenal found the back of the net through strikes from Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli in North Carolina.

Elsewhere in the game, former West Ham midfielder Declan Rice made his debut for Mikel Arteta’s side in the pre-season clash.

Rice, who completed a British transfer record to Arsenal earlier this month, played 35 minutes of the game with the MLS All-Stars.

Ex-Ajax star Jurrien Timber also played for the Gunners during the game.

The Gunners AWe are also interested in Mohammed Kudus, a £40 million midfielder from Ajax, but we are focusing on slimming Mikel Arteta’s squad before they ramp up their £200 million recruitment campaign.

Arsenal sporting director Edu will now turn his attention to outgoing business with Kieran Tierney, Cedric Soares, Nicolas Pepe, Albert Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Rob Holding among those sparking interest that could entice Arsenal to sell.

But while the current focus is on relieving players, Arsenal are not ruling out further players coming this summer with Ghana international Kudus one of the players of interest to the Gunners.

Kudus is also interesting for Brighton this summer, but the appeal of playing the Champions League and playing in a team that is hopeful of competing for the Premier League title next season could become a factor for the Ajax player.
