Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has denied that captain Leonardo Bonucci will continue in the January transfer window.

The Italian defender, 35, has made just seven starts in all competitions so far this season and has fallen out of favor under Allegri.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that the veteran was keen to leave the club due to his poor relationship with the Juventus boss.

Eyebrows were raised as Bonucci sat on the bench during Serie A games against Torino and Monza.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has denied that captain Leonardo Bonucci will leave in the January transfer window, insisting he is happy with the defender.

He was involved in the second half against Torino, but only after he replaced Gleison Bremer who walked away injured.

Italian outlet Il Giorno had claimed Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte at Tottenham were willing to make a switch to Bonucci in January.

However, Allegri denied these rumors and said his relationship with the defender was fine.

“Leonardo is the captain of the team, a player with personality that I have to manage like everyone else,” he told reporters.

“He’s a crucial player whether he’s playing or not. It’s a general path that everyone is involved in, at 35 you don’t have the energy like when you were 20.

“That goes for any player who reaches a certain age. I’m lucky enough to have six defenders and I can rotate them.

“I’m happy with Leo, he’s a responsible man and an asset whether he’s playing or not.”

Juventus will return to action when they host Empoli on Friday night, while the Italian giants are currently languishing in eighth place in Serie A.
