Justin Trudeau is pictured on set of Canada’s Drag Race

Justin Trudeau has been criticized for participating in the Drag Race television franchise, while Canadians argue he should focus on preventing the cost of living crisis.
Trudeau’s appearance on the new season of Canada’s Drag Race was announced Tuesday, with the show posting a photo of the prime minister beaming next to a drag queen saying, “We’re making herstory.”
A trailer for the season, titled Canada vs The World, shows the Prime Minister meeting contestants, who compete to become the ‘next drag superstar’. The premiere is scheduled for November 18.
But soon after, a social media reaction erupted amid controversies over drag shows involving young children after images surfaced of performers posing sexually for young children.
Amy Eileen Hamm, the co-founder of the Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights coalition, asked if Trudeau will “combine womanface AND blackface,” as Paul Oakley, the former spokesperson for the UK Independence Party, tweeted: “A staunch supporter of blackface, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will now also endorse womanface as he is a guest in Drag Race.’
Another Twitter user also wrote that Trudeau is “a disgrace.”

“But this shame is intentional,” the Canadian woman wrote. “They’re divisive — he knows we conservatives will hesitate — and he can reply, ‘This isn’t who Canada is.’
Meanwhile, another woman asked, ‘Are there no major crises in the country? Most of them he helped create like the good little puppet that he is.
And instead of even pretending to try to fix things, here he dances with drag queens. What a disgraceful clown.’
Shortly after the announcement was made, Trudeau faced backlash on Twitter
Trudeau has long been known to champion LGBTQ issues in Canada, regularly appearing at parades of pride and apologizing for injustices committed against the gay community.
But his appearance in the new season of Canada’s Drag Race comes at a time when prices in the country have risen 6.9 percent, with the Bank of Canada raising interest rates by 350 points in just seven months, according to the report. Reuters.
There is now a growing fear that the country will soon enter a recession.
And in September, the new president of the Canadian Medical Association announced that the nation’s entire health care system could collapse if it doesn’t get an infusion of cash, CBC reports.
dr. Alika Lafontaine, an anesthesiologist, told CBC that health care in Canada is in “dire” difficulties, while quality of care is severely limited in some parts of the country.
“We’ve been saying for a while that we’re concerned about the collapse. And in some places the collapse has already happened,” Lafontaine said. “All these things are not normal things for Canadians to experience, so we are now at a critical point.
“If you don’t have access to services, it literally means collapse,” he added.
Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos has suggested that more money will be injected into health care soon.
Some pointed out that he has come under fire before for his use of blackface
Meanwhile, there has been a fierce backlash against drag shows in recent years after several clips surfaced showing drag queens performing for young children.
Just last month, a video posted to Twitter of a so-called “family-friendly” drag queen show captured an artist spreading his legs in front of an audience of young children.
The event appears to be sponsored by IPIC Movie Theaters, which operates a number of locations in the northeastern US, Florida and California.
In the short clip, a scantily clad drag queen takes a forward roll along a catwalk before suggestively spreading their legs wide in a skimpy leotard.
The performer then pushes their chests forward as a young boy is only a few feet away and appears to be tipping another cast member.
And in Oregon, violent clashes erupted during a “drag queen story event” that would include an appearance by an 11-year-old whose former “drag mom” is a suspected pedophile.
Protesters against the event faced supporters outside the venue, Old Nick’s Pub, which is named after Satan, which also hosts adult fetish nights.
Some protesters on both sides of the approximately 200-strong standoff were armed, police said, including semi-automatic rifles.
But despite the chaotic scenes outside the pub in Eugene, the event went ahead anyway – although the child performer, whose stage name is Vanellope MacPherson DuPont, reportedly didn’t take the stage as planned.
It has since emerged that a woman claiming to be one of Vanellope’s “drag moms,” Kelsey Meta Boren, was charged with three child sex offenses earlier this year.
She is accused of sharing child pornography images and told detectives she has “an uncontrollable itch” to communicate with pedophiles.

In Kansas, Republicans also attacked Democratic leader Laura Kelly and her administration over revelations that taxpayers’ money helped fund an all-ages drag event over the weekend.
Images obtained by DailyMail.com show scantily clad drag performers dancing at the Wichita event for both adults and young children.
It was called the ‘DADA Ball’ and it was advertised as ‘a free night for all ages of music, fashion, drag & dancing!’
One of the sponsors of the event host is the Kansas Creative Arts & Industries Commission, which is part of the State Department of Commerce. The department is headed by Kelly’s Lieutenant Governor, David Toland.
However, the department denied funding the drag show.
But when the Kansas Republican Party learned of the all-ages drag event, it called it “shocking” and used it as evidence of Kelly’s “liberal” leanings.
“Laura Kelly’s state-funded all-ages drag show proves that despite what her glossy campaign ads portray, she really is that liberal,” Shannon Pahls, GOP executive director, told DailyMail.com.
“It is shocking to those of us in Kansas to find out that our taxpayers funded the exposure of explicit sexual themes to children. Laura Kelly and her entire administration have to go.’
