Notably, the interview took place four years after Timberlake and Spears’ relationship ended.
He had moved on with actress Cameron Diaz, with whom he had been in a three-year relationship at the time of the story’s publication, but he still seemed to have bitter feelings towards his ex.
It’s been a tough week for the SexyBack singer; days ago, the world discovered intimate details about his relationship with the Baby One More Time hitmaker in a published excerpt from her book.
The mother of two revealed she had an abortion during her relationship with Justin when they were 19 years old.
Spears wrote that while she wanted the baby and “dreamed of a family” with Justin, he ultimately “wasn’t ready” for the responsibilities of fatherhood.
In an excerpt published by People the singer recalled: ‘It was a surprise, but for me it was not a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected that one day we would start a family together. This would just be a lot sooner than I expected.
“He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby.
‘I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been up to me alone, I would never have done it. And yet Justin was so sure he didn’t want to be a father.’

Timberlake also had good things to say about Spears that year. In an interview with CBS he stated of her: ‘I want to see her win. I don’t think you can ever discount someone like her. Because she may look a certain way, but she’s very smart.”
In the time since their breakup, the two superstars have built a friendly bond.
In April 2020, Spears posted a video of himself dancing to the Tennessee native’s song Filthy.
“I know we had one of the biggest breakups in the world 20 years ago. But hey, the man is a genius! Great song JT!’ she captioned the images.
Justin responded with a series of emojis: a crying laughing face and three raising hands emoticons.
And in a February 2021 Instagram post, Timberlake apologized for his past behavior toward her after the Framing Britney Spears documentary replayed his post-breakup interviews.
“I’ve seen the posts, tags, comments and concerns and I want to respond. “I deeply regret the times in my life when my actions contributed to the problem, when I spoke out of turn or did not stand up for what was right,” he wrote.
Then in June of that year, following Britney’s shocking testimony about her conservatorship, he sent a message of support and solidarity.

“After what we saw today, we should all be rooting for Britney right now. No matter our past, good or bad, or how long ago it was,” he wrote in a tweet.
‘What’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be limited in making decisions about her own body,” he continued. “No one should EVER be held against their will…or ever have to ask permission to access everything they have worked so hard for.”
“Jess and I send our love and absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts and her family make this right and let her live the way she wants to live,” he added in a third tweet, referring to his wife Jessica Biel, whom he married in 2012.

Britney and Justin met at the age of 12 on the set of The Disney Channel’s The New Mickey Mouse Club, which aired from 1992 to 1995.
They met again as teenagers when both of their music careers were on the brink of superstardom and started dating in 1999.
Their relationship ended in 2002, followed by rumors that Britney had cheated on Timberlake… which she admitted in her memoir, in which she confirmed that she had kissed her choreographer Wade Robson.
Justin wrote Cry Me A River about infidelity, and his solo career skyrocketed with the release of his debut album Justified.
