- Langer says he is a qualified aerobics instructor
Justin Langer left his fellow Channel 7 experts stunned after revealing he is a qualified aerobics instructor.
Langer, 53, was part of Australia's greatest ever team and played an integral role alongside Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist in the batting order.
He went on to become a successful coach at international level and took charge of his home country before his acrimonious departure last year.
But he has admitted he has another sporting passion: aerobics classes.
The Australian legend, who led the country to an Ashes victory, the world's No. 1 Test ranking, and lifted the T20 World Cup trophy, made the revelation during Channel 7's coverage of Australia's Boxing Day Test victory on Pakistan.
Justin Langer has made a surprising admission about a bizarre career move
Langer says he is a qualified aerobics instructor, leaving his peers in the industry baffled
“It takes me back to the heyday of aerobics,” Langer said after watching Hassan Ali lead the Bay 13 crowd with some impressive dance moves.
'Did you feel like that before, 'Alfie'? You had a lot of different fitness regimes,” Simon Katich asked.
Langer replied, “Aerobics might have been up there. I think I got my aerobics instructor certification at some point – with the leg warmers, the fluorescent bike shorts and the headband.”
'Wait a minute, a diploma? An aerobics instructor qualification?' asked a surprised Alison Mitchell.
“Yes, and my family still reminds me,” Langer said sheepishly. “I'd be out there, in the back, getting them to do some aerobics.”
“That goes well with your black belt in karate,” Mitchell said.
Katich added, “You are a man of extremes, there is no doubt about that.”
