Danny Mills has hit out at Jurgen Klopp, claiming the Liverpool boss is overrated as a coach.
Klopp has enjoyed nine brilliant years at Anfield since replacing Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
He has won every trophy except the Europa League – and many have compared him to great Liverpool managers of the past such as Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly, while several others have called him one of the best top flight managers of all time.
In January he shocked the football world when he announced his intention to leave Anfield at the end of the season, admitting he was running low on energy. Since then, the German has received much acclaim.
However, former England and Man City defender Danny Mills disagreed with the praise for Klopp and insisted his performances are inferior to those of other managers.

In an intense debate about talkSPORT of the Reds boss with fellow presenter Hugh Woozencroft, Mills said: ‘He has won one Premier League in nine years.’
Woozencroft bit back at Mills, pointing out the impact Klopp has had in transforming Liverpool, along with helping them compete with Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking Man City side.
But Mills was unconvinced, highlighting Liverpool’s five trophyless seasons out of the past eight, adding: ‘But he came second. Claudio Ranieri won the competition. Managers have come to Chelsea and won it in their first season.
‘They were there for two seasons and won a Premier League. If you’re going down, what’s better…’
Woozencroft continued to sing Klopp’s praises and mentioned Liverpool’s Premier League victory in 2019/20, outlining that the Reds had never won it before Klopp.
Mills replied: ‘Blackburn hadn’t done it when they did it, Leicester hadn’t done it, Chelsea hadn’t done it when Mourinho came in.’
Woozencroft took the example of Chelsea and argued that this was the result of significant spending in the transfer market, while also pointing out how Blackburn was funded by local businessman Jack Walker, before Mills intervened and said: ‘Wait a minute.
‘Liverpool have spent their share. Liverpool have been lucky in that they have sold players for a lot of money.
Mills’ fellow presenter Hugh Woozencroft said Klopp has had a remarkable impact at Anfield
But Mills disagreed, claiming the German coach was not on the same level as Pep Guardiola
“If you look at Coutinho, what a ridiculous fee that was. £120 million… he never played for Barcelona.
“So they’ve spent money and their wages are ridiculously high. Mo Salah earns around £400-500,000 a week.
“Thiago came in, they have a lot of big players with a lot of money, they spent money.
‘Klopp has been very good, but he does not belong with Guardiola. He has won one Premier League…’
