Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he gave his Liverpool players two days off after their heavy loss to Wolves last weekend.
Their 3-0 loss at Molineux was the latest setback for the Reds, who have also suffered heavy defeats to Brentford and Brighton since early January.
Liverpool is tenth in the table, just nine months after they competed for an unprecedented quadruple, in which they finished the season with two trophies.
Klopp has revealed that he was in an “average” frame of mind after the loss to Wolves, and believed it made sense for his shattered team to have two days off to recover.
The German told reporters that the break ‘fixed’ his state of mind and that the players seemed ‘incredibly fresh’ on their return.

Klopp believes his players have benefited from the break and says they look very fresh.
He told reporters: ‘We analysed, we talked to each other and then we gave them two days off, as it was a very long time between last Saturday and this Monday.
So I could have said training on Sunday or recovery, and then from Monday we go for them (Everton).
‘It wouldn’t have been helpful at all. It would have been bad, it would have caused injuries, a lot of problems.
“To be honest, the Sunday after we talked about everything, I thought 100% that it makes sense that we don’t see each other for two days.”
‘It was helpful. I left on Sunday in a normal mood and came back in a good mood.
“I figured it out, I got a lot of phone calls, but I was in a much better mood, so it was beneficial.”
Liverpool have battled fatigue and injury throughout the season with star players from recent seasons looking like a shell of their former self.
Klopp is hopeful the break will benefit Liverpool as they face an inspired Everton side, who won their first game under manager Sean Dyche against league leaders Arsenal.
Klopp’s state of mind will have been further improved with the return of the likes of Virgil van Dijk to training.

Then, when asked how the players responded to his return, he added: “Everyone looks incredibly fresh this week.”
‘That’s the truth. The workouts looked really good, super intense.’
