Jurgen Klopp makes subtle dig at Blues’ HUGE January transfer splurge as it nears £200m

‘They solve problems differently from us’: Jurgen Klopp takes aim at tomorrow’s opponents Chelsea as their January splurge approaches £200m, saying: ‘I’m not sure they can do that for the next 10 years.”

Jurgen Klopp delivered thinly veiled barbs ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Anfield on Saturday.

The Liverpool manager did his best to be brief when discussing the Blues spending almost £200m in the January transfer window alone.

“Chelsea solve problems differently than we do,” he said during his lunchtime news conference on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp remained largely diplomatic when discussing Chelsea’s spending on Friday

When asked about the spending of his four main rivals, Klopp took a diplomatic approach.

‘Interesting,’ he said. ‘I can’t explain it, I have no idea. But if the numbers are true, then it’s impressive.

It comes as Chelsea travel to the North-West, having spent nearly £200m this January.

Klopp went on to suggest that Liverpool will have no choice but to spend in the future to match their rivals, but admitted that he cannot foresee Chelsea continuing on that financial trajectory.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has reached into deep pockets for the regeneration of the Blues.

‘I don’t see investment stopping in the future, so that means we have to as well. I believe 100% in coaching, development and team building. But meanwhile, the managers are all good and believe in it too.

‘So if they start spending, if we don’t spend, you’ll have a problem. However, I’m not sure they can do that for the next 10 years.’

Klopp made another coy comment about 10th-placed Chelsea, claiming that his club is aware of “responsibility” and does not need to transform its squad every season.

Chelsea and Liverpool will meet for the first team this Saturday in Liverpool at noon

“We are in good hands and we know responsibility,” he said. ‘The moment you build a team doesn’t mean you make it new every year.

“It’s not worrying that other teams can spend, it’s a fact, so we also have to react.”

More to come.
