Jurgen Klopp admitted he was not concerned about Mohamed Salah’s departure in the January transfer window, with the Egyptian striker a high-profile Saudi Pro League target this summer.

Salah’s sale was ruled out by the club, despite Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad reportedly willing to offer £200 million for the player.

The player ultimately stayed at Anfield, but speculation continued to swirl that an exit was on the horizon.

However, Klopp reacted angrily when asked about the possibility of Salah leaving in January. He asked a journalist, “You’re kidding me, aren’t you?” when asked about it on Friday.

He added: “A week after lockdown you ask me about the January transfer window.”

The German then laughed when it was suggested there could be another bid in January, before saying: ‘You can’t wait until December to ask these questions! We’ll see what happens, but no, I’m not worried about it right now.

“I didn’t even think about it until you opened the wound again.” I’m not worried.’

The Egyptian has started the season in strong form, having scored 19 times last season, and has already scored twice and provided a further two assists in the 2023/2024 campaign.

Klopp also ruled out Trent Alexander-Arnold for Saturday’s trip to Wolves, with the match starting at Molineux at 12.30pm.

The defender is out with a hamstring injury and Klopp suggested he would be assessed as soon as he was able to run in training.

He was still full of praise for the right-back and joked: ‘If you can find a better passer, tell me!’.

The Liverpool boss was seemingly unimpressed when asked about his side’s schedule and whether the Reds had a problem with playing at 12.30pm on Saturday.

It was pointed out that his team lost three games and drew three last season, but he reacted with apparent shock and asked: “Are you serious about this question?”

He added: “What do you mean what’s the difference when you play in Bolivia 30 hours ago? What do you think the reason is, I don’t understand.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the match against Wolves due to a hamstring injury

‘Is it a matter of time or of the lack of recovery in between? If you have a normal week, that’s no problem, that’s what we’ve always said. The only problem is the lack of recovery time.

‘We have four international breaks until March, and on two of them the kick-off is at 12.30. If I say one word about it again, the whole world will say, “He’s starting to moan again,” but it’s a joke – we have players in South America who I haven’t seen yet and we’re playing in 24 hours. It is a joke.

‘We’re never going to change that, but it doesn’t change anything at all. They just don’t care (inaudible) about that, so why should we talk about it?

‘The moment someone like you makes me feel, as I’m sitting there, “What exactly is the problem, is it 12:30 because it’s lunch time?” Or could it be like the time between matches and the intensity of the to travel?” Give your own opinion about it, but perhaps without a source.’
