Jurgen Klopp was furious after Justin Kluivert left Luis Diaz in agony with a studs-up challenge – but suffered no consequences.

The Liverpool manager looked angry and in disbelief as he protested to a referee after the brutal-looking challenge, and Diaz was forced off temporarily.

Kluivert faced no consequences and VAR cleared the challenge – despite co-commentator Alan Smith thinking it was somewhere ‘between a yellow and red’ card.

The incident took place in the first half of Liverpool’s trip to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth.

‘Did the VAR team have a coffee break during that Kluivert stud scratch from Luis Diaz?’ wrote a fan on X, formerly Twitter.

Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: ‘I think Kluivert is a lucky boy. I don’t want to see a red card in such situations. The reason Liverpool will be frustrated is because Curtis Jones was sent off for something similar against Tottenham.

‘It’s an unpleasant challenge, but he just gets the right decision. Football is not played in slow motion.

‘At full speed it doesn’t look too dangerous, but when you slow down it’s a shock. It’s a red card. It’s an annoying challenge. I think they just come to the right decision. Football is not played in slow motion.

“When you see it at full speed, there’s not much there.

Alan Smith said: ‘He stretches for it, and it’s painful. It’s certainly not a malicious challenge.

‘It seems like an innocent challenge at normal speed. I don’t think it’s red. Somewhere between yellow and red. He had his eyes firmly on the ball.’
