Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool have agreed a £111 million deal for Moises Caicedo, claiming the club ‘doesn’t have endless resources’…but Chelsea ‘refuse to give up on the Brighton midfielder’
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has confirmed the club have agreed a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but claimed The Reds “don’t have endless resources” despite accepting a British-record transfer.
Klopp’s men hijacked Chelsea’s long-standing pursuit of Caicedo by offering £111 million to the Seagulls, who accepted the offer after the Blues offered £100 million.
And at his press conference ahead of the club’s season opener – against Chelsea – this weekend, Klopp revealed their deal for Caicedo was agreed, but he shrugged to talk about the club’s resources.
“I have been told I can confirm that the deal has been agreed with the club, whatever that means,” he said.
“We don’t have endless resources, but a few things happened this summer that we didn’t expect. Hendo, Fab is going.

“Let’s see what happens and then we go from there. I don’t know (if there is a medical examination today).
“Let’s talk about that when things like this happen, I really can’t say anything about that, that’s the truth.”
Klopp’s words come after a separate report claimed Chelsea were still adamant they would not relinquish Caicedo, despite Liverpool looking for favorites for his signature.
Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian claimed the Blues were still hoping for a deal after their £100 million offer was baffled by the Reds.
The UK record deal – which would be the sixth highest in football history if confirmed – came after Liverpool passed its £105 million asking price. Chairman Tony Bloom would have refused to sell for anything below that fee.
Personal terms are yet to be agreed, but should be a formality. Caicedo and his agent were in West London last night awaiting developments in the bidding war.

It will be a huge blow to Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino if Caicedo comes to Liverpool – but The Blues reportedly refuse to give him up
Liverpool will probably pay Caicedo more wages than Chelsea had offered.
Chelsea had turned down four offers before offering £100million on Thursday night and appeared to be the frontrunners for his signature.
However, Liverpool remained interested from a distance and had requested to be kept informed of developments.
The Reds grew weary of Southampton’s appreciation of 19-year-old Romeo Lavia and while fans criticized the club for not spending money on the Belgian, it is clear that Liverpool’s reluctance was not for lack of money but because of their appreciation of the Belgian. Lavia based on his age and experience.
Unless Chelsea can pull off a massive turnaround, Caicedo will be Liverpool’s third major signing this summer, following Alexis Mac Allister, also from Brighton, and fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
