‘It doesn’t feel very good’: Jurgen Klopp admits his disappointment when Liverpool are knocked out of the FA Cup after Brighton’s defeat… but suggests he ‘could see the positives’ despite his team’s slump

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that it “doesn’t feel very good” to see his Liverpool team lose to Brighton.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round on Sunday when they fell 2-1 at the hands of Roberto de Zerbi’s side, with Kaoru Mitoma scoring the winner in stoppage time.

It was the second time the Seagulls had beaten Liverpool in as many weeks, although Klopp praised his team for playing better than they did in the Premier League fixture.

“We came here after a game a few weeks ago when we weren’t even close to ourselves,” Klopp told the BBC.

“Today we played a better game, but we conceded two goals from set pieces and that is not allowed in any way.”

Mitoma is in fine form for Brighton to have found a new lease on life with De Zerbi.

He caused a lot of trouble for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool right-back during the match, but Klopp lamented the lack of support for the English full-back.

“On the left side, Robbo was fine because we helped him, but on the other side, Trent didn’t get the support,” he said.

‘Mitoma is really good, so of course it was difficult. We could have defended both goals better. The first one is wide but we can probably block the shot.

‘She doesn’t feel very well. Over time we could see the positives, but we wanted to go to the next round. Congratulations to Brighton.

Liverpool have now recorded just one win from their last six games in all competitions, a stark contrast to their success last season.

Wolves meet in the Premier League next weekend, before the Merseyside derby against Everton the following week.

Liverpool are struggling for results and have now won once in their last six games in all competitions.
