Todd Haynes’ critically acclaimed Drama with a budget of $20 million centers on actress Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman), who investigates the sex offender turned baker in order to play her more authentically in an indie film.
The two-time Emmy winner’s character is a thinly veiled version of Mary Kay Letourneau, who served six years in prison for the second-degree rape of her 12-year-old student Vili Fualaau.
The controversial couple eventually married for twelve years until their divorce in 2019 and Mary died at the age of 58 from colorectal cancer in 2020.
Last Thursday, Vili Fualaau claimed that Melton, Haynes and screenwriter Samy Burch never contacted him about May December.
‘I’m still alive and doing well. If they had contacted me, we could have worked on a masterpiece together. Instead, they chose to make a copy of my original story,” the 40-year-old DJ said THR.
