It comes after Julia’s latest rumored project, a Madonna biopic, was scrapped when the 64-year-old singer revealed she would travel to 35 cities around the world during her 40th anniversary tour in 2023.
During the Celebration Tour, Madonna will commemorate her iconic career and her legacy of success that spans four decades.
However, prior to the announcement, the Inventing Anna star reportedly competed with several actresses, including Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, 25, and Don’t Worry Darling’s Florence Pugh, 27, in a demanding process for the coveted paper.
The casting process was rumored to include 11-hour choreography sessions, singing auditions, and readings led by the Queen of Pop herself.
the united states sun reported that the Like a Virgin hitmaker reportedly wanted ‘near total’ control of the project, according to a Hollywood source.
The biopic, which was greenlit in 2020, was slated to be co-written and directed by Madonna until Universal Studios executives reacted to her “circus antics” on social media.
“Madonna did herself a disservice by acting weird on social media throughout this entire process,” the source told the publication.

“She signed a contract to do this movie and that should have been the cue for her to stop the circus antics, stop chasing likes and just buckle up and get this movie in shape,” they added. “Her hilarious Instagram posts of her are always a trap for her die-hard fans, but they didn’t do well at Universal.”
The source also revealed: “Studio heads were looking at what Madonna put out during these months that she was supposed to be writing and they were left scratching their heads.”
It comes after fans called for the Madonna biopic audition process to be turned into a reality show.
During callbacks, the actresses did readings with Madonna and singing auditions with her.
A representative with knowledge of the auditions called them “grueling,” with some of the auditions having been going on for months.
“You have to be able to do everything,” a source told THR.
Insiders said that drafts of the script culminate with her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour, but the story was thought to have the potential to change as plot development continued.
Despite the disappointing news that the biopic is no more, fans decided to revel in the chance to get some insight into Madonna’s recruiting process.

Sources say that Madonna still wants to make the movie at some point in the future, but is currently turning her attention to her upcoming concert series.

News broke in June that Julia Garner, who recently played faux German heiress Anna Delvey in the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna, had been offered the lead role.
Julia reportedly bested a number of fashion names, including Oscar nominee Florence Pugh, Kingstown Mayor actress Emma Laird and Euphoria bombshell Alexa Demie, as well as singers like Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
Madonna was heavily involved in the biopic, not only was she supposed to co-write the movie, but she was supposed to direct it as well.
