Barcelona defender Jules Koude has revealed his reasons for joining Chelsea this summer.

The 23-year-old appeared on the cusp of signing for the Seville Blues before Barca, long-held interest in the Frenchman, looked to the Premier League side in a £56m deal.

Kounde says it was manager Xavi who sold him to the LaLiga side, after he also spoke with former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to French outlet L’Equipe, the defender said: “Firstly, I come to a big club, which have had good times and which have had less lately.

“I’m coming to a project that I wouldn’t call reconstruction, because we already have a competitive team, but rather a revival.

“I was interested in being part of this new wave, looking for titles and bringing Barca back to where it has always been, one of the best clubs.

‘After that there was the conversation with the coach. We mainly talked about football. I felt a real confidence from him, that he had a real knowledge of myself, my game and my qualities.’

“I spoke to Tuchel and I also felt that he wanted me to come, but I just preferred Xavi’s speech,” he added.

Missing the first two games of the season due to Barca’s financial constraints, Koude is a fixture in the team.

Xavi’s side are currently second in LaLiga despite their unbeaten start, two points behind leader Real Madrid after their win in the Madrid derby on Sunday.
