Judge’s bombshell response to ‘suicide’ death of teacher Ellen Greenberg from TWENTY stab wounds

A judge has condemned officials who ruled the death of a teacher with 20 stab wounds as suicide, calling her cause of death ‘puzzling’.

Ellen Greenberg, 27, was found dead on the kitchen floor of her Philadelphia apartment on January 26, 2011, in the middle of a snowstorm.

She suffered ten stab wounds to her neck and the back of the head, and ten to her stomach, abdomen and chest – while a 10-inch knife was still stuck in her heart.

Assistant Philadelphia Medical Examiner Marlon Osbourne initially ruled her death a homicide, but changed it to suicide after a meeting with police and prosecutors.

Earlier this month, a judge told her parents Josh and Sandee Greenberg that the decision to change the ruling also baffled him.

Judge Michael Erdos made the comments during a hearing as part of the parents’ ongoing lawsuit accusing officials of covering up their daughter’s death.

It was the first time her parents sat in a courtroom and listened to arguments in the case.

Erdos said: “I don’t think anyone would disagree that the crime scene should have been handled differently. The fact that the death certificate mentions the cause of death as suicide is a mystery.’

Fox News reported that Erdos dismissed one of the defendants in the lawsuit but withheld judgment on four others.

Erdos also asked the attorney representing the Greenbergs to submit documents detailing how he plans to show a jury how they “intentionally inflicted emotional distress” on the Greenbergs.

The judge added: ‘It’s a steep climb, but not an impossible climb. You have a fighting chance.”

The defendant who was fired was Lyndsey Emery, a former pathologist with the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office.

The others named in the lawsuit include Osbourne, former chief medical examiner Sam Gulino, retired Sgt. Tim Cooney and Detective John McNamee.

As the years have passed, pathologists, crime experts, law enforcement officials and attorneys have expressed doubts about the suicide ruling.

The knife went through her chest, piercing her liver, severing her aorta and severing the dura mater, the membrane surrounding her spinal column.

Another wound was more than two inches deep, near the base of her skull, and caused a bleeding stroke.

Greenberg’s fiancée Samuel Goldberg called 911 and said he found her in a pool of blood after forcing his way inside when she didn’t answer.

He has been the target of suspicion for the past decade by those convinced Greenberg was murdered.

For the past 13 years, Goldberg has always stuck to his story of returning from the gym to the building and realizing he had locked himself out.

Goldberg recently told CNN for the first time: “When Ellen committed suicide, I was stunned.

‘She was a wonderful and kind person who had everything to live for. When she died, a part of me died with her.

“In the years that have passed, I have endured the unimaginable death of my future wife, as well as the pathetic and despicable attempts to violate my reputation and her privacy by creating a narrative that embraces lies, distortions and untruths to prevent the truth.

‘Mental disorders are very real and have many victims. I hope and pray that you never lose someone you love like I did to a terrible disease, only to be accused by ignorant and misinformed people of causing her death.”

Over the course of 22 minutes, he sent her nine messages as his fiancée lay dead on their kitchen floor.

She had 10 stab wounds to her neck and the back of the head, and 10 to her stomach, abdomen and chest, while a 10-inch knife was still stuck in her heart.

In sequence he texted her: ‘Hello’, ‘open the door’, ‘what are you doing’, ‘I’m getting p*****’, ‘hello’, ‘you better have an apology have’, ‘what the f***’, ‘ahhh’ and ‘you have no idea’.

Greenberg previously texted her friend Alycia Young around 3:40 p.m., mentioning ongoing issues in her job as a teacher, which friends said were causing her stress, a CNN Investigation reported.

Those were the last outgoing text messages sent from her cell phone, while Goldberg’s cell phone was also silent at the time, according to the records.

His telephone records also showed that calls were made regularly and regularly on the day before her death, apart from an interruption between 4pm and 7pm.

The routine of calling continued the next morning and afternoon, but on the day of her death he was radio silent from 3:40 PM to 5:30 PM.

Surveillance footage showed him getting off the elevator at 4:50 p.m. and walking to the gym in the building, where he told police he had been using the elliptical for half an hour.

At 5:26 p.m., he was seen walking to the concierge desk to check his mail before returning to his apartment and realizing he had been locked out.

Greenberg's parents fought for years to have her manner of death changed from suicide to homicide or undetermined in the autopsy report and death certificate.

When asked by detectives why he didn’t immediately force the door open, he said:I thought she was in the shower, doing her hair, or working with her headphones on, or even taking a nap.”

Goldberg is increasingly outnumbered in his insistence that Greenberg committed suicide, especially considering the number and location of her stab wounds.

Greenberg’s parents fought for years to have her manner of death changed from suicide to homicide or undetermined in the autopsy report and death certificate.

After amassing a trove of evidence pointing to murder, they sued the riot police and Osborne in 2019, but were dismissed in Commonwealth Court last September.

But the Pennsylvania Supreme Court granted their request in July to hear an appeal as a “matter of statewide importance.”

Goldberg was never charged and moved on to Caroline Fay Shnay, the daughter of wealthy real estate agents, whom he married at the Plaza in New York City on January 11, 2014, almost exactly three years after Greenberg’s death.
