Judge suspends Justin Timberlake’s driver’s license over DWI arrest in New York

SAG HARBOR, NY — A New York judge revoked Justin Timberlake’s driver’s license during a virtual court hearing on Long Island on Friday.

Timberlake pleaded not guilty to drunk driving. Police arrested Timberlake June 18 after he allegedly ignored a stop sign and left his lane.

The former NSYNC singer, who is on tour in Europe, said little during the remote hearing.

His attorney, Edward Burke Jr., has maintained that Timberlake was not drunk and that the case should be dropped.

“The facts remain he was not intoxicated,” Burke said Friday, according to Newsday. “I’ll say it again: Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated and we are very confident that those charges, those criminal charges, will be dropped.”

Sag Harbor Township Judge Carl Irace has revoked Timberlake’s driver’s license and threatened to impose a gag order on Burke, saying the attorney’s comments to the media were inappropriate.

Irace has scheduled the next court appearance for August 9.

The case was delayed after Burke said the original charging document was not signed by a sergeant and therefore should be quashed.

According to Assistant District Attorney Ashley Cangro, new documents were filed on July 2 that should correct the error.

Timberlake was driving a BMW in the posh beach town of Sag Harbor around 12:30 a.m. when an officer pulled him over and determined he was intoxicated, court documents show.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, he had trouble paying attention, his speech was slower, he was unsteady on his feet, and he scored poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” court documents said.

Timberlake, 43, told the officer he had had one martini and was following some friends home, the documents said. He was arrested and spent the night in police custody.
