Judge agrees to drop charges against Israeli diplomat’s teen son who ran over Florida cop
The teenage son of an Israeli diplomat accused of running over a police officer on his motorcycle could soon have his criminal record expunged.
Avraham Gil, 19, was arrested in January in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida — a suburb of Miami — after he intentionally ran over a police officer with his motorcycle, causing a “disabling” leg injury, authorities said.
On Monday, Miami offered the teen a pre-trial diversion program — typically offered to first-time offenders — that will allow him to avoid jail time, as reported by NBC Miami.
Gil must instead do 100 hours of community service, take a traffic course and adhere to a driving ban. He must also donate $500 to the Ryder Trauma Center.
Prosecutors will drop charges against him for aggravated assault on a law enforcement agency if he completes the program.

Gil’s lawyer Stephen Millan said in court that the teen’s parents’ diplomatic visa expires at the end of July, and the teen plans to move back to Israel to earn a living in the IDF.
Prosecutors allege the officer Gil injured approved the deal.
Gil wrote the officer a letter asking for forgiveness, saying the incident “was an important wake-up call in my life.”
‘Before this incident, I started working in an administrative social services department at the government. Now I have chosen to serve in the active army,” Gil claimed about his plans to join the Israeli army, which is currently fighting the war in Gaza.

The officer then grabbed Gil from his bicycle and brought him to the ground before arresting him.
Gil then apologized and told police that he did not mean to hit the officer, but that he was weaving through lanes because “he hates waiting behind traffic.”
Despite having at least two previous encounters with police in just two months, Gil was released on his own recognizance after his lawyer argued that his father Eli Gil, a diplomat at the Israeli consulate in Miami, has diplomatic status.
The State Department states that “family members who are part of the households of diplomatic agents enjoy exactly the same privileges and immunities as the sponsoring diplomatic agents.”

After Gil’s arrest, Room 10 has uncovered the teen’s previous encounters with police, including a license plate reading ‘pls Chase’, which appear to indicate a pattern of road rage.
Gil was arrested on December 31, 2023, for traffic violations, and video of the encounter shows him telling an officer that his father is a diplomat.

Miami Shores police tried to stop the teen again on Jan. 14, but he kept driving, and Miami Shore police don’t chase traffic violations.
Gil is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
The diplomat’s son is also accused of driving without a license plate or driver’s license.
His next court appearance is on February 26.
