While he admitted he would have to ask director and writer Nancy Meyers first, he added, “Why not?”

The original film told the story of Surrey-based journalist Iris (Kate Winslet) who, after suffering heartbreak, swaps homes with Amanda, a Hollywood film producer.

While in Surrey, Amanda finds romance with Iris’ brother, widower Graham, while Iris meets and dates Miles (played by Jack Black).

Graham is the father of children Olivia and Sophie, played by Miffy Englefield and Emma Pritchard, as the girls also fall in love with Amanda when they adopt her into their family.

Despite his on-screen daughters now being adults, Jude believes the plot could still be revisited as he adds that he doesn’t believe his character will have changed much.

“I think Graham still has vests and glasses and reads,” he joked. “He’s probably worried about the girls, right?” The daughters will be 28, 29.’

It comes after Jude recently admitted he tried to play up his good looks in his early 20s, joking that now in his 50s he regrets not ‘playing them up’.

The star earned a reputation as a heartthrob and became world famous for playing a host of classically handsome characters.

He played famed playboy Dickie Greenleaf in 1999’s The Talented Mr Ripley, while playing romantic leads in films such as The Holiday.

Appears in the June issue of DuJour magazine Jude said he found it ‘satisfying’ to play the loathsome king, rather than his typical roles.

The Oscar nominee added that he had tried to play less attractive roles in his younger years, claiming he could no longer do so because he was “saggy and bald.”

He said: ‘I didn’t feel like I ever really had the inclination to play pretty, but there were roles that required an attractive energy.

“In my early twenties I tried to play against my appearance, and now that I’m saggy and bald, I wish I’d played it off.”

Recently, he has taken on several roles that “had no appeal whatsoever.”

Jude admitted, “It was satisfying not to have to turn the switch on.”

In his new film, he stars opposite Alicia Vikander, who stars as Henry’s sixth and final wife Catherine Parr.
