Jude Bellingham ‘will reject latest offer from Borussia Dortmund of £230,000 a week’, with £130m-valued 19-year-old poised to join Real Madrid in big deal this summer
- England international Jude Bellingham seems on his way to Real Madrid
- He has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s best players and they have offered a new contract
- The terms on the table are believed to be in excess of £12 million a year
Jude Bellingham is on the verge of turning down a final offer from Borussia Dortmund after they presented improved terms in a bid to stave off interest from Real Madrid.
Bellingham, one of the most prominent young players in world football, looks set to join Madrid and is on track to become the club’s second-highest earner this summer.
But according to ImageDortmund offered the 19-year-old new terms of a club record £12 million a year (£230,000 a week).
Real appear poised to fend off competition from Manchester City and Liverpool, who were both interested in the England midfielder, although the Reds backed away from the race in April.
But it’s the Spanish club in charge and Bild reports they’ll pay Bellingham £17.4 million a year (£334,000 a week), making him their second-highest earner behind Eden Hazard.
Jude Bellingham scored a brace on Sunday as Borussia Dortmund beat Wolfsburg 6-0
The midfielder is set to join Real Madrid as their next Galactico this summer
The compensation to be paid to Dortmund is expected to be around £130 million.
Bellingham will be desperate to spend his time at Dortmund in style if he is to continue this summer.
His brace in a 6-1 thrashing of Wolfsburg at the weekend helped close the gap to Bayern Munich to one point with three games remaining.
Despite talks with Real appearing to be at an advanced stage, Bellingham boss Eden Terzic said: “I haven’t even heard of him being involved with any other club.”
And in March, he said, “With all due respect to Jude and his performance, we’ve been answering these kinds of questions since his arrival (in 2020).
“Before he chose to join us, he had opportunities to join the Premier League. There was a lot of interest from top clubs.
“But he chose to join us because he knows it could be the perfect move for him. I think we proved it both ways. He helps us a lot. But we as a club help him and his career too.’
But it seems Dortmund cannot compete with the financial strength or appeal of Real, who will include a reported release clause of £875m, the equivalent of €1bn.
Whether Carlo Ancelotti will still be at Real next season remains to be seen
Liverpool distanced themselves from a move over fears of the high transfer fee and wages, while also fighting to secure Champions League football, swinging the transfer race in Real’s favour.
And Man City have not made a formal offer for the midfielder.
14-time European champion Juni Calafat’s chief scout, who identified him as the crown prince to the throne of Luka Modric, met with Bellingham’s father, Mark, earlier this year and communication between the respective parties has continued.
It would now be a surprise if Bellingham ends up anywhere other than the Bernabeu this summer.
