Juan Soto has denied widespread reports that the New York Yankees’ mistreatment of his family played a role in his decision to leave the team.
Soto traded the Yankees for the New York Mets in one of the biggest sports deals ever: a 15-year contract worth $765 million.
It was reported that a complaint Soto had towards the Yankees was that a staff member once removed his chef and a family member from part of Yankee Stadium.
These claims were put to Soto in a new interview with Grandes en los Deportes, and the new Mets man responded defiantly.
“That’s a lie,” Soto said, before apparently describing the Yankees as a “1A” organization.
He also revealed that he asked the Mets for permission to play in ten games for Tigres del Licey in winter ball, which was approved, but he will not play this season.
