The View’s Joy Behar appeared to criticize the late Queen Elizabeth for not abdicating sooner so King Charles could have his ‘day in the sun’ before the news are cancer diagnosis.
The comedian made the comments during Tuesday’s show shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the monarch was undergoing treatment for the disease.
His sons Prince William and Prince Harry rushed to his bedside, while estranged Prince Harry flew in from his home in Montecito, California.
Discussing the situation, Behar, 81, suggested that the late Queen Elizabeth, who was the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch for 70 years until her death at 96, “could have used term limits.”
“It’s like, why not step down and let Charles have his day in the sun?” Behar asked. “The poor man, he finally becomes king, and now he has a disease. That doesn’t seem fair. There’s something wrong with it.
Joy Behar slammed the late Queen Elizabeth for not stepping aside to let her son, King Charles, take over the throne as it emerged the monarch is being treated for cancer
Behar, 81, suggested that Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year rule was ‘unfair’ and that she should have had ‘term limits’ to ensure her son had a fair chance to become king
King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was revealed to the public on Monday, with Buckingham Palace confirming he had begun treatment. It comes less than a year after his coronation
‘The woman held this position for seventy years, the longest reign. I think she could have used some terms.”
Her comments caused mild amusement among the audience, with some letting out nervous laughs.
But they didn’t fare so well on social media, where several X users, formerly Twitter, hit back.
“Maybe #JoyBehar should get her 81 year old ass off the TV and make room for someone else?” wrote one user.
“Joy should have been put on term years ago!” Another added.
One person said: ‘I have absolutely no interest in the Royal Family (see my Twitter account), but that doesn’t change the fact that Joy Behar is an unscrupulous pig.’
Queen Elizabeth reigned from 1952 to September 2022 until her death from ‘old age’. Charles celebrated his coronation less than a year ago on May 6.
He has been visited by both sons, although there were no plans for a reunion between the brothers, and tensions have continued to run high since Harry decided to step back from his senior royal duties in January 2020.
The prince ‘would have happily agreed’ to a reunion with his brother but instead ‘spent a night in a hotel in London’, it was claimed.
Although Harry and the Prince of Wales have no plans to meet during the Duke’s stay, it is believed that mutual friend Mark Dyer – who was a mentor to the princes after Diana’s death – could act as a bridge between the siblings, a source said.
It is believed that William, 41, remains focused on caring for his wife Kate, who is recovering from her abdominal surgery and is taking an extended leave of absence from public duties until after Easter.
The Duke of Sussex flew more than 5,000 miles from his home in California to London yesterday for what ended up being a 45-minute meeting with his cancer-stricken father, King Charles.
Both of the king’s sons traveled to be with the monarch. Prince Harry enjoyed a ‘brief’ meeting with his father but made no plans to see his brother Prince William amid their ongoing feud

King Charles returned to his Sandringham estate on Tuesday and is said to be in good spirits
Queen Elizabeth died in September 2022 at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne
Harry did not spend the night at any royal residence, as he has been effectively homeless on British soil since his eviction from Frogmore Cottage last year, and is thought to have stayed at a luxury hotel instead.
But experts have said they hope Harry’s trip is the ‘sign of a truce’ with Charles.
King Charles returned to his Sandringham estate on Tuesday, the anniversary of his grandfather’s death.
Charles arrived back at the Norfolk mansion with Queen Camilla before being ushered in by waiting aides.
He was said to be ‘in good shape’ after treatment for the unspecified cancer. The royal helicopter arrived at Sandringham just before 5pm.
