World-renowned journalist Bernard Kalb has died at the age of 100.

He died at his home in North Bethesda, Maryland, on January 8 after suffering complications from a fall, his family said.

In a career that spanned more than six decades, Kalb worked for CBS, NBC, The New York Times, and many other newspapers and media outlets before retiring.

He was once an Army journalist during World War II, before traveling to the South Pole, Hong Kong, and China for a number of different assignments.

In 1986, he resigned his position as State Department spokesman to protest a government disinformation campaign.
