- Joshua John Potter, 25, has been charged
- Constable’s employment is under investigation
A south-west Sydney police officer accused of possessing child abuse material has appeared in court for the first time, flanked by family and supporters.
Joshua John Potter, 25, appeared in Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday, just over three weeks after he was charged following an internal police investigation.
In June, the NSW Police Professional Standards Command began an investigation into Constable Potter, an officer from the South West Metropolitan Region.
On September 17, he was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station and charged with possessing/controlling child abuse material and using the carriage service.
According to court documents, Mr Potter is said to have possessed the child abuse material at his home in Glen Alpine from May last year to July 30 this year.

The material was allegedly stored on a computer and data storage device.
He was granted bail before appearing in court with his lawyer Sophia Seton on Thursday.
He sat silently at the back of the court next to family and supporters as his case was heard by a court clerk.
He did not enter a plea during the brief appearance.
NSW Police said he had been suspended with pay and his employment status was under review.
Constable Potter returns to court on December 4.
