JOSH HAMMER: How could our Jewish Second Gentleman get the Hanukkah story so CRINGINGLY wrong? It’s so typical of this blundering White House – and just as Biden rolls back support for Israel!

If you thought our vice presidential cackler-in-chief had a hard time communicating, just listen to her husband, Doug.

America's first Second Gentleman gives his wife Kamala a serious run for her money when it comes to spouting incomprehensible gibberish.

Call it a friendly family competition.

Most of the time, Doug Emhoff stays in the background, to avoid overshadowing Kamala's overwhelming, er, “star power.” But every now and then he emerges to faithfully regurgitate the latest progressive platitude.

Who can forget how he took on the fabricated non-issue of so-called “toxic masculinity” in March?

“Has being second gentleman changed your views on perceived gender roles and what it means to be a man?” asked MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart.

“Phew,” Emhoff said emotionally. “This is something I've thought about a lot… There's too much toxicity, male toxicity.”

Congratulations, Doug, you have dutifully memorized that portion of the Awakened Catechism!

But witness how he delivers when it comes to the stories and principles of our shared faith: Judaism.

“In the Hanukkah story, the Jewish people were forced into hiding,” Emhoff tweeted last night – before deleting it. “No one thought they would survive or that the few drops of oil they had would last,” he continued. “But they survived and the oil kept burning.”

Um, come again?

There was no question of 'hiding'.

Witness how Doug delivers when it comes to the stories and principles of our shared faith: Judaism. (Above) Since deleted message from Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff on the night of December 11, 2023

Either Doug didn't do the reading, or the stupid social media intern who wrote this post didn't consult Wikipedia before posting it.

Rather, the story of Hanukkah is one of a fierce Jewish uprising against the occupying Seleucid Empire, which aimed to Hellenize the Jews and strip them of their Jewishness.

Quite timeless, right?

The rebellion was led by Judah the Maccabean – Judah 'The Hammer'. I should know. My own Hebrew name is Yehoshua Binyamin Maccabee.

Now brace yourselves, because the social media heresy has continued. “During the eight days they were in hiding, they recited their prayers and continued traditions. Therefore, Hanukkah means devotion,” Emhoff wrote.

Wrong again!

In the Hanukkah story, after Judah – the warrior – led the Maccabees to a military victory over the much more powerful Syrian-Greek occupiers, he cleansed and rededicated the Second Temple in Jerusalem.

But the scant supply of oil they found to relight the eternal flame of the Temple menorah was only enough to burn for one night.

Miraculously, it lasted eight days.

Did you miss that day at Hebrew school, Emhoff?

Hanukkah celebrates two different miracles: the military victory and the oil. He swung and missed both.

“In these dark times,” Emhoff's post concluded, “I think about that story.”

Really and truly? Because it is completely inaccurate.

This one is so bad it makes Kamala's obsessive screeds about Venn diagrams sound like TED Talks.

We have to ask ourselves: How on earth could the White House get this so terribly wrong?

In Emhoff's retelling, the Jews are not observant and defiant, but meek and weak. And it's not just that he distorted the holiday. He literally rewrote it.

Of course it all makes sense.

While President Joe Biden reportedly told his re-election campaign donors behind closed doors that Israel is “starting to lose” international support in its war against Hamas terrorists, and after Kamala Harris lectured the country on the dangers of Islamophobia, the White House thought that perhaps Doug could increase their support among Jews, who feel increasingly abandoned.

But they just couldn't bring themselves to tell the story of proud, courageous Jewish warriors who refused to be intimidated and fought for their country, their way of life, and their God.

That would contradict The Narrative.

So with “Squad” Democrats accusing the Jewish state of war crimes and university administrators reluctant to condemn calls for genocide on campus, the Second Gentleman shouldn't bother too much.

A little edit here. A bit of revisionism there. And the proof of this is that the story of Hanukkah becomes one of a docile people content with being a victim.

After all, for the progressive left, we are all victims.

Except, of course, when Jews are 'oppressors'.

You see – it all depends on the context.”

Curious, that.
