Jose Mourinho has been handed a huge fine and a one-match ban following his incredible post-match tirade following his Fenerbahce side’s 3-2 away win at Trabzonspor on Sunday.
The iconic former Premier League boss has never been far from controversy throughout his career and continues to do so in Turkey, where he is in charge of Fenerbahce.
Mourinho initially celebrated at the weekend when former Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat scored a dramatic late winner for his side, but later became furious with the match officials.
Mourinho played the victim after VAR intervened several times during the match, most notably by awarding two penalties to the home side, mocking VAR as ‘man of the match’ and saying referee decisions ‘smell bad’.
The Turkish Football Association was furious at Mourinho’s suggestion of bias and has now punished the 61-year-old with a fine of more than ÂŁ20,000 and a one-match ban.

Speaking to reporters after the match on Sunday, the Portuguese initially pointed to the actions of VAR, Atilla Karaoglan, saying: ‘Today the man of the match was [VAR referee] Atilla Karaoglan.
‘We didn’t see him, but he was the referee of the match. We don’t want him anymore. We don’t want it because it stinks. We don’t want him. We don’t want him on the field, but even less so on the VAR.
‘We play against a system. And playing against a system is the hardest part.â
Mourinho further criticized the VAR official for missing several key decisions in the first half and insisted Karaoglan was busy ‘drinking tea’ rather than doing his job.
He also mocked the referees by calling the referee ‘a little boy’ and uploaded footage to social media of an alleged handball from Trabzonspor goalscorer Simon Banza, which was rejected by VAR.
Mourinho sarcastically captioned the clip: âWatch and smile. If you like it, watch the game, because the funny situations don’t end with this video.’
The video received more than 650,000 likes on Instagram in less than 17 hours, with Fenerbahce fans backing their manager’s complaints.
The whole of Mourinho’s actions after the match were taken into consideration by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) as they weighed an appropriate punishment for the outspoken coach.

The TFF hit back at the legendary manager, releasing a scathing statement warning the Fenerbahce boss against making such comments in the future.
The TFF statement read: ‘The flash interview and post-match press conference will evaluate them as a whole; the statements in question are contrary to sportsmanship, sporting ethics or the concept of fair play, damage the reputation of the TFF, aim to diminish the value of Turkish football, cast a shadow over the impartiality of the referees and other match officials, and have therefore been punished with a discretionary fine of TL 900,000 (ÂŁ20,178) in accordance with Article 38/4-a of the FDT for unsportsmanlike statements.â
Mourinho is yet to respond to his latest reprimand and has been well supported by Fenerbahce supporters since his sensational tirade that put the spotlight on the state of refereeing in the Turkish Super Lig.
Meanwhile, the former Chelsea, Spurs and Man United boss has had a mixed start in Turkish football, with Fenerbahce third in the Super Lig standings and five points behind leaders Galatasaray.
