Jose Mourinho made his name as Fenerbahce manager by receiving a yellow card after just 20 minutes of his first league match as the club’s manager.

Mourinho, 61, was appointed manager of the Turkish giants this summer, replacing former coach Ismail Kartal, who left despite leading the club to 99 points last season.

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Internazionale manager has been welcomed in Istanbul in his first role since being sacked by AS Roma in January.

Mourinho has already played three Champions League games, with Fenerbahce beating Swiss side Lugano 6-4 over two legs in the second qualifying round. Last week they lost their first leg of the third qualifying round to Lille 2-1.

And on Sunday, Mourinho took charge of Fenerbahce’s opening match in this season’s Turkish Super Lig, with the club hoping to win the domestic title for the first time since 2013-14.

Fenerbahce hosted Adana Demirspor at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, but Mourinho started excellently.

In a hectic opening phase of the match, Mourinho showed his best side by repeatedly reprimanding the fourth official.

But with only 20 minutes left on the clock, the Portuguese coach’s frustrations reached boiling point with the referee.

Mourinho vented his frustrations when a decision went against his team, making angry gestures and shouting at the referee and the fourth official.

Referee Atilla Karaoglan decided to intervene and gave Mourinho a yellow card. The 61-year-old player looked furious, showing that he is still a very temperamental player on the sidelines.

Mourinho was shown the yellow card after he was also warned last week during the 2-1 defeat against Lille, because he became angry with the referee.

And several fans were thrilled to see Mourinho back to his old self in the dugout.
