Jose Mourinho has been suspended for four games by UEFA for insulting referee Anthony Taylor following Roma’s defeat in the Europa League final.
Mourinho furiously confronted Taylor in the car park of Budapest’s Puskas Arena in the aftermath of his side’s loss to Sevilla, labeling the referee a ‘damn disgrace’.
Before flying home, Taylor and his family were harassed by a group of Roma thugs in the Budapest airport terminal and escorted by police officers.
Due to the suspension, Mourinho will have to miss four games in the group stage of the Europa League next season. It is not known whether the penalty is a touchline or a stadium ban.
In a statement released today, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body imposed a series of penalties on the Serie A club as a result of their flaring anger.

Long after the final whistle in Budapest, Mourinho confronted official Taylor in the parking lot
Mourinho was singled out for ‘abusive language directed at a match official’.
He had unleashed a savage tirade at Premier League fixture Taylor during and after Roma’s dramatic penalty defeat last month.
A hot-headed Mourinho speaking after the game accused Taylor of favoring Sevilla with a series of controversial decisions and suggested he “seemed Spanish to me.”
Roma’s supporters were equally furious with Taylor and more than a hundred of them cornered the 44-year-old as he and his family scurried through a crowd.
Security personnel struggled to maintain a barrier between the referee, his family and the chanting crowd, with foul language and even objects being hurled at the group.
Finally, they were led to their departure gate and left.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for referees in the UK, described the incident as ‘unjustified and repugnant’.
A statement said: “PGMOL is aware of videos circulating on social media showing Anthony Taylor and his family being harassed and abused at Budapest Airport.
“We are shocked by the unjustified and abhorrent abuse inflicted on Anthony and his family as he tries to come home after refereeing the UEFA Europa League final. We will continue to give Anthony and his family our full support.”
AS Roma have been fined €50,000 (£43,000) and banned from selling tickets to their away supporters for their first Europa League group stage match next season due to “set off fireworks, throwing objects, damage and disturbances”.
The club was also slapped €5,000 (£4,300) for ‘inappropriate behaviour’.
“We’re not playing the Champions League next year and that’s a good thing because we’re not made for it,” said Mourinho.
“And let’s hope Taylor only leads games in the Champions League and does the same bull**** as tonight, and not in the Europa League.”
