‘We can’t just sign Mykhailo Mudryk’: Jose Mourinho criticizes Chelsea’s buying power, on the same day Todd Boehly’s Blues spent £88m on the Ukraine star and handed him an eight-and-a-half-year deal.

José Mourinho has led a dig at Chelsea for their widespread spending, on the same day they signed Mykhailo Mudryk for £88m.

Roma manager Mourinho, who spent two seasons in charge of the Blues, watched his team beat Fiorentina 2-0 thanks to a Paulo Dybala brace on Sunday.

But the Portuguese boss criticized the Premier League side’s seemingly rampant spending after the match, bemoaning the fact that they have to “find a solution” with their current players rather than simply buy a new one.

Roma manager José Mourinho has criticized Chelsea’s seemingly limitless spending.

His comments came on the same day the Blues signed Mykhailo Mudryk (above) for £88m.

When asked about using defender Marash Kumbulla as a cover for Roger Ibanez, he said: “To get that quality, we have to grow the young players.” (Midfielder Benjamin) Tahirovic has this quality.

‘We need a defender who can pass the ball out of defense better and Kumbulla is probably the best at it, but we need Ibanez for his speed and determination. We have to find a solution, we can’t buy Mudryk for 90 million pounds!

I don’t expect anyone to come. Director [Tiago Pinto] He was very honest and direct, he said things that a manager doesn’t normally like to hear. Coaches always want to hear that we have a lot of money, we can buy option a, b, c, d, build an amazing team.

The Premier League side have spent around £400m under Todd Boehly’s new regime

That is the dream. I worked in clubs with virtually unlimited funds of that kind. There are more and more clubs that fit that profile, but it is not our profile. We work, we give our all, we work with the characteristics we have.’

Chelsea have now spent around £400m on new players under Todd Boehly’s new regime, with Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella arriving in the summer.

In the January window, the club also signed Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile for £35m and is paying around £15m to have Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season.
