Jose Mourinho admits that he’s unsure whether he’ll stay at Roma for the 2024-25 season and claims that ‘anti-Mourinhoism’ has taken over the Italian club’s fanbase

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has claimed he does not know whether he will still be in the job for next season’s campaign amid uncertainty over his future at the club.

Mourinho spent two years with the Serie A giants and managed to lead them to a maiden Europa League conference title before reaching the Europa League final last year.

Despite his success in Europe, ‘the Special One’ is under increasing pressure in Rome given the team’s early season form which has seen them fall to 10th in the table.

Amid growing rumors, Mourinho recently admitted it was likely he would one day work in Saudi Arabia.

And that day could come sooner than expected after the 60-year-old revealed he does not know whether he will manage Roma next season.

His future at Roma is uncertain as they sit 13th in the league after a poor start to the season.

Asked if he would be at the club in 2024-25, Mourinho replied: “I don’t know. Before (the final in) Budapest, I promised the players that I would stay.

“After the match against Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico, I told the fans that I would stay, and here I am now.”

On Saturday, reports emerged suggesting that Roma ready to lay off Mourinho if his team fails to defeat Cagliari last weekend.

Fortunately for Mourinho, Roma won 4-1 thanks to goals from Houssem Aouar, Andrea Belotti and Romelu Lukaku.

Despite this, the former Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham boss admitted that a large part of the fanbase is still unhappy with his work.

“There is also anti-Mourinhism. Especially in Rome you can find both sides,” he replied.

“Anti-Mourinhism is followed by people who rejoice when Roma don’t win and when Roma don’t achieve European success.

Reports claimed that Mourinho would be sacked if his team failed to beat Cagliari this weekend.

The Roma coach also claimed that a section of his fans indulged in “anti-Mourinhoism”.

“They’re having fun on the radio and that’s good. I say this because I meet people on the street, all over the world, who identify with my way of life. But for me the most important match is always the next one, the past is history.

In his first season in charge, Mourinho ended more than half a century of waiting for a European trophy with victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 Europa Conference League final.

Then, last season, the club reached the Europa League final for only the second time in their history before losing on penalties to Sevilla.

The former Man United boss recently revealed he turned down the chance to take charge of Saudi club Al-Hilal this summer, walking away from the most lucrative contract ever offered to a manager, reportedly worth £26 million per year.
