Sevilla have reportedly reached an agreement with José Luis Mendilibar to become the club’s third manager of the season.

The La Liga side had hoped to sack Jorge Sampaoli after their 2-0 loss to Getafe on Sunday.

The result saw Sevilla drop to 14th in La Liga, with the Andalusian team now just two points above the relegation zone.

Sevilla have been able to put aside their disastrous league season in Europe.

The record six-time Europa League winners will face Manchester United in the round of 16 of the competition next month.

Sevilla are two points above the relegation zone after a 2-0 loss to Getafe on Sunday.

According brandMendilibar is expected to be on the bench for the tie with the 62-year-old, replacing Sampaoli.

Mendilibar, who recently coached Eibar and Alavés, will take charge of the club on Tuesday.

He is expected to manage Sevilla with a contract until the end of the season after reaching an agreement with the club.

Mendilibar would face Cádiz and Celta de Vigo in their first games in charge after the international break.

Sevilla would then travel to Old Trafford for the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final on 13 April.

Sevilla have yet to officially confirm the departure of Sampaoli, who was only appointed head coach in October.

Sampaoli has overseen six wins, five draws and eight losses since taking over from Julen Lopetegui, including a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Atlético Madrid earlier this month.

The Argentine had led Sevilla to the Europa League round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate victory over PSV Eindhoven in a tiebreaker last month.

Sevilla beat Fenerbahce 2-1 in two legs in the round of 16.
