Jonjo Shelvey was told to stay home due to poor attitude, according to a report from Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.
Shelvey was left out of the matchday squad to face his former side Liverpool on Wednesday and the reason appears to have been revealed.
The midfielder is said to have been angry at being named to the bench at Anfield after Cooper felt his training performance was not good enough to warrant a starting spot.
The two are said to have engaged in a heated exchange, with Shelvey eventually being left out of the squad and sent home for the game, according to The Telegraph.
Shelvey is now back in training, but it is unclear whether he will play a role in his side’s game against Brighton on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old has made eight appearances for Forest since joining the Newcastle club in the January transfer window.
Six of those were as a starter in Forest’s midfield, including two as a substitute.
Shelvey had been an unused substitute in the side’s previous match, a 2–0 defeat at home to Manchester United on 16 April.
A player missing for disciplinary reasons is the last thing Cooper needs as his side are already dealing with an injury crisis and fighting to save their Premier League status.

Forest lost Saturday’s game against Liverpool 3-2 after pushing the Reds back twice and are now 19th in the Premier League.
They have only won six times all season and then face a high-flying side from Brighton.
They must also face Brentford, Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Crystal Palace to avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight, although they will be without Scott McKenna for the rest of the season.
Cooper confirmed on Monday that the defender has broken his collarbone and will miss the remaining games.
