Jonathan Majors says he was 'shocked' by guilty verdict as he insists he did NOT beat ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in 'crocodile tears' interview with ABC

Marvel star Jonathan Majors expressed disbelief that he has been convicted of assaulting ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in what many have called a “crocodile tears” interview with ABC, the news network owned by his former bosses, Disney.

Majors was convicted of assault on Dec. 18 after a jury in New York City heard how he punched Jabbari and injured her finger during an altercation in the back of an SUV in March.

Her team of lawyers presented photos of her injuries, which showed a cut behind her ear and a swollen finger.

Majors has always denied hitting her. He was caught on surveillance cameras picking her up and pushing her into the car after trying to run from her in the street, but there is no footage of the incident for which he was found guilty.

In her testimony, Jabbari said she felt “excruciating” pain when Majors twisted her fingers to retrieve his phone after she took it from him.

He was dropped by Marvel after the conviction, but was negotiated ABC news last night for his first interview. Critics say it was a chess move by Disney to pave the way for its return to the fold of the highly lucrative film franchise.

'I've never hit a woman before. I have never hit a woman,” he said, adding that he was “shocked” by the guilty verdict.

He and his lawyers say it is unfair that he was prosecuted “as a black man” while Jabbari, who is white, was never charged despite being arrested and chased down the street.

'I was absolutely shocked and scared. I'm standing there…I'm saying, “how is that possible? Based on the evidence, based on the prosecution's evidence, how is that possible?”

He insists he does not know how Jabbari suffered the injuries presented to the jury.

'I wish I knew. That would give me some clarity, some kind of peace about it,” he said, insisting there is “no doubt” he did not impose them.

He complained about not being able to see his daughter during the trial, and lamented the fact that no one questioned why Jabbari — a white woman — chased him down the street in the moments before the car altercation.

“If you watch those videos and turn that around, and you see a black man chasing a young white girl down the street screaming and crying, that man is shot and killed on the streets of New York City.

“That black man will feel that.”

Despite his conviction, he said he is confident he will work in Hollywood again and that he deserves a second chance.

The jury was also shown audio recordings of Majors berating Jabbari and telling her she didn't measure up to the likes of Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King's wife.

He defended his comments, telling ABC's Linsey Davis, “I was trying to give an analogy of what I aspire to, and trying to give a reference point for that.”

“I want her to make the same sacrifices I did.”

They also learned about other past relationships in which he was accused of being abusive.

He says he wasn't always “the best boyfriend,” but puts this down to a history of “depression and childhood trauma.”

He gushed about his current girlfriend, Meagan Good, who was present for the interview.

Good stood by him throughout the process.

“She's an angel… she held me like… I'm so blessed to have her. The relationship is still fresh… but I think I found her,” he said.
