Jon Jones could have a future in rugby league if the UFC heavyweight king decides to leave the cage after he was filmed executing a perfect dump tackle in Australia.

The 36-year-old landed in Australia on Friday and headed to rugby league side Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, where he spent two hours with players and coaching staff.

Jones was a guest on a day of the club’s pre-season and took part in physical exercises, while also taking part in a question and answer session with players who had a day off planned.

The UFC heavyweight superstar is currently recovering from an injury after undergoing elbow surgery in January while rehabbing a pectoral muscle problem that forced the cancellation of his fight against Stipe Miocic in October.

However, Jones appeared to be in top condition as he pulled off a brilliant rugby tackle that showed he could have a future in another sport.

Jones encouraged a player with a padded tackle bag to run towards him and took a few steps forward before jumping into a tackle, lifting his opponent into the air and landing on a crash mat.

Other players then surrounded the pair as they celebrated Jones’ success while mocking their teammate who was sprawled on his back before the UFC veteran helped him back up.

The video is encouraging for Jones supporters as it shows he is in excellent physical condition and can withstand contact despite only having surgery at the start of this year.

After participating in that day’s training, Jones said, “I feel like the most impactful part of today was our question and answer session.

“I just introduce the players to the mentality of a champion athlete.”

Despite being in excellent physical condition during training in Australia, Jones is not expected to return to the Octagon until the middle of this year at the earliest.

He last fought Cyril Gane in March last year when he returned to the sport and defeated the Frenchman in the first round to become heavyweight champion.
