Joleon Lescott heaps praise on ‘unique’ Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson

‘He WILL go down like a great’: Joleon Lescott heaps praise on ‘unique’ Manchester City star Ederson – as Brazilian goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel approaches Premier League title record

  • Joleon Lescott called Ederson unique as a modern goalkeeper for his ability
  • The Brazilian has won four Premier League titles since joining Man City in 2017
  • Peter Schmeichel’s five Premier League wins are the current record for a goalkeeper

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been praised for his ‘unique skill’ as he equals Peter Schmeichel’s record of five Premier League titles for a goalkeeper.

Ederson has revolutionized the position since signing for Pep Guardiola in 2017 and former City defender Joleon Lescott, who won two league titles at The Etihad for Joe Hart, says the Brazilian will go down as a great.

“I don’t think the number of Premier League titles alone determines whether you are the best, but when all is said and done I think he will go down as a great,” said Lescott.

“The way the modern game is played, I think he is unique in his ability, possession and composure.

That will be a factor of why he is considered one of the best. If it’s ‘the’ best, who knows.’

Guardiola was questioned when he took off Hart and initially signed Claudio Bravo for a season before settling for Ederson.

“The way Pep wants to play is different from, say, Joe’s strengths,” Lescott added.

“Joe is a good friend of mine, but yes, of course different styles mean different outcomes for different players.

“I was lucky enough to play with a lot of goalkeepers that I could trust. Tim Howard, Matt Murray, Joe Hart, just to name a few.

“We would try to oversee situations. There is something nice about working on the field with good keepers.’

Ederson is currently tied with Petr Cech on four Premier League titles but will add another if City win three of their remaining four games, starting at Everton on Sunday.

Should City win the league this year, Ederson will equal Peter Schmeichel’s record for most Premier League titles won by a goalkeeper
