Johnny Gaudreau’s sister has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her brothers after they were struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver the day before her wedding.

Katie Gaudreau paid a moving tribute Monday morning, describing Johnny, 31, and Matt, 29, as “the best big brothers a little girl could ever ask for.”

The duo were hit by a car while riding their bicycles in Oldmans Township, Salem County, just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening.

They were both supposed to stand beside their sister as groomsmen at her wedding on Friday afternoon, but the wedding was subsequently canceled following the tragedy.

Katie said, “To know these two was to love these two. There are absolutely no words I have to express the bond my family shared.

‘The whole world knows that there would have been no John without Matty, and no Matty without John.

‘The very best big brothers a little girl could ever ask for. This will never be a goodbye message, because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both.

“I’ll take good care of Mom, Dad, Kristen, Mer, Madeline and your babies.”

Besides Johnny himself being part of the bridal party, the wedding would also be an extra special day for him. He would have seen his almost two-year-old daughter Noa walk down the aisle as a flower girl.

His six-month-old son, Johnny, would be the ring bearer and his wife Meredith was Katie’s bridesmaid.

Instead of celebrating the happiest moment of her life with her brothers as planned, Katie and her family were left to mourn the double tragedy.

The two brothers were struck by another vehicle on Pennsville Auburn Road, near Stumpy Lane.

The driver – 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, New Jersey – is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter without bail or unsecured.

Johnny’s wife Meredith described him as “the best father… and the best partner to parent with.”

“John never missed an appointment. Was the best at putting the baby to sleep and the Apple of Noa’s eye. I love how much she looks like him.”

She said she found comfort in the thought that the brothers are “of course together in heaven,” noting that the two “always sat next to each other… hip to hip.”

‘Absolute best friends and biggest fans of each other, despite their polar opposite personalities.

“I don’t think John could live a day without you, so I’m glad to know that in heaven you’re together, of course.”

Matthew meanwhile leaves behind his wife Madeline, more than three years after their wedding.

To add to the tragedy, it has been revealed that Madeline is currently pregnant with the couple’s first child.

Meredith said, “Matty, thank you for loving our babies like they were your own and for being such an amazing uncle and godfather.

“I can’t wait to return the honor when I become Tripp’s aunt. Please continue to take care of John like you always have. I have Madeline and Tripp.”
