Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose is thrilled dad has made a comeback at Cannes… after his reputation was dented by accusations from Amber Heard

Lily-Rose Depp is thrilled that her father Johnny has made a career comeback.

The veteran star received a lengthy standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16 for his role in Jeanne Du Barry, which was so emotional he was moved to tears.

And the 59-year-old actor’s daughter – who defended her show The Idol this week – is happy to be back on the A-list.

‘I’m super happy for him. I’m super excited,” Lily-Rose, 23, shared ET. ‘And it’s so great that we get to do projects that we’re super proud of.’

A source told People“He really enjoys working and touring again. He managed to turn his life around. He prioritizes his health and work.’

The source added: “He led a destructive life and people close to him were concerned. Everyone is excited about how he turned things around. He’s also much happier.’

This comes after Depp said he “doesn’t have much need for Hollywood anymore.”

“Comeback is almost like coming out and doing a tap dance – dance my best and I hope you approve. That’s the idea. It’s a bizarre mystery,” he said.

This comes after Johnny said he “doesn’t have much need for Hollywood anymore.”

The actor – who is back in the spotlight for the first time since his libel lawsuit with ex-wife Amber Heard last year – is back on screen as King of France Louis XV in new film Jeanne Du Barry, and he has addressed previous comments in 2021 when he claimed he felt “boycotted” by the industry.

Speaking at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival a week ago, he said, “Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? Well, you wouldn’t have to have a pulse to feel like this was all just a weird joke at the time.

“Of course, if you’re asked to quit a movie you’re doing because of something that’s just a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air… Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all,” he added.

“But I don’t feel boycotted because I’m not thinking about Hollywood. I don’t need Hollywood much anymore – I don’t know about you.’

Depp – who admitted that it had been difficult for him to continue as a public figure due to the legal battle – also suggested he was disappointed in Hollywood as a whole.

He explained, “It’s a really strange, funny time where everyone would love to be themselves but can’t because they have to be in tune with the person in front of them. If you want to follow that line, be my guest. I’m on the other side.’

Johnny, who successfully sued Amber for defamation in a lawsuit related to an op-ed she wrote about being a victim of domestic violence, received a seven-minute standing ovation when he arrived at a screening of the new film.

He has shaken off the idea that his new role – in which he speaks completely French – is a ‘comeback’.

He added, “I keep wondering what the word ‘comeback’ is because I wasn’t going anywhere. In fact, I live about 45 minutes from here.

“Maybe people stopped shouting out whatever their fear was at the time, but I wasn’t going anywhere. I’ve been sitting.’
